<Genia4> not before
<Soronel> pulse: why would she want you when there's prime op available?
<Genia4> they taught us how to use linux today, for 2 ****ing hours
<Genia4> 30 minuts of which covered emacs
<pulse__> Soronel: well I have 130 an IQ
<Soronel> Genia: heh heh
<pulse__> depends on which scale though
<Genia4> Soronel: some dumb ***** was like "IT'S NOT WORKING"
<Genia4> he came to her workstation, looked and said out loud "You have to seperate the arguemnts from the command"
<Genia4> the stupid ***** was typing cd~intro2cs
<Genia4> it was horrific this cl***
<czthwrk> well, to be fair, oldschool DOS didn't mind
<jamesd-> should have done alias cd~intro2cs='cd ~intro2cs' instead of teaching her.
<Soronel> czth: NT still doesn't
3 maria1980
<czthwrk> Soronel: like i said, oldschool DOS doesn't mind :P
<Genia4> czthwrk: I have a very strong feeling she never used dos
<Genia4> the problem isn't that as a honest mistake
<Genia4> it was written on the desk
<Genia4> on the handouts
<Genia4> everywhere
<Genia4> and how much I hate emacs
<Genia4> I just can't describe it
<jamesd-> emacs is your best friend.
<Soronel> although NT doesn't go for cd%SystemRoot%
<jamesd-> Your best friend has personality quirks.
<Genia4> emacs ****s
<pulse__> why do girls always leave me alone
<Soronel> Genia: at least emacs acts like an editor until you tell it to be something else
<Genia4> for some reason, all non-console gnu apps **** so much
<pulse__> I mean I just asked to marry maria1980
<pulse__> and now she doesnt' answer anymore
<Soronel> vi acts likes a command prompt without help unless you know how to ask for it
<Genia4> Soronel: yeah, but still I think vim is a bit nicer
<Genia4> I still like it more
<dscvlt> probably cos it's a guy who thought he's more likely to get an answer to his tedious question by pretending to be female
<Genia4> I hate gnu non-console apps
<Genia4> they are all so...
<Genia4> how should I call it
<Genia4> wrong
<Soronel> Genia: what non console app are we talking about?
<Genia4> emacs :)
<Soronel> I'm not
<pulse__> lol dscvlt
<pulse__> that's prolly it
<Genia4> you're not what?
<Genia4> ok, exception to the rule
<Genia4> gimp, gtk and gnome are ok
<Soronel> I'm not talking about a non-console emacs
<Genia4> gimp is more than ok, much more
<Genia4> Soronel: that's what they're forcing us to use
<Soronel> I love emacs but can't stand it under X
<Soronel> Genia: alias emacs='emacs -nw'
<Genia4> some ugly xlib based menu, toolbar, with emacs in the middle
<Genia4> problem is, they are just forcing us to use it
<Genia4> they didn't publish tabbing/spacing requirements
<Genia4> just said "use emacs, it's preconfigured"
<Genia4> but I wanna use kate :(
<jamesd-> I use Emacs under X all the time. Though I use the menus rarely. I just like the ability to manage multiple top-level windows with one copy of emacs running.
<Genia4> my problem with emacs is the ctrl-x thing
<Genia4> it's kinda annoying, since you have to press that to access all basic commands
<Genia4> also, teacher tried to prove keyboard is faster than mouse to a cl*** of people typing with 1 -2 fingers
<roopjm> you know that ed thing we were talking about yesterday.... it is damn hard to quit.. i thought I had ctrl-x'd it, and i ran a ps aux and the thing was still running today
<Genia4> ed is quitabble
<roopjm> Genia4: hah
<Genia4> type q, press enter
<jamesd-> Genia4: lots of emacs commands don't use ctrl-X. It's not like the ctrl-other things are unused.
<roopjm> i <3 vim
<Genia4> jamesd-: the ones I learned today all do
<Genia4> I <3 kate
<Soronel> jamesd: one of the reasons I like emacs in a console is that it then uses the console resource settings
<Genia4> or kate based editors (kdevelop, quanta)
<Genia4> I can't use a text only text editor for my real editing tasks
<Genia4> I need a mouse
<Soronel> jamesd: trying to customize emacs resources to be comfortable to my eyes is a pita
<Genia4> for quick replace/clipboard access
<Genia4> keyboard is annoying for that
<Genia4> marking is annoying with the keyboard
<Genia4> I haven't figured out how to type with ed actually
<Genia4> anything I press gives me ?
<Soronel> Genia: I find the emacs kill ring to be extremely comfortable
<Genia4> so, I know how to quit
<Genia4> and that's about it
<Genia4> kill ring?
<Soronel> Genia: ed requires something like insert a line, type the line
<Genia4> btw, talc is the ****!
<Soronel> Genia: emacs gives you access to more than just a simple cut paste
<Genia4> I had a pair of "warm home shoes"
<Genia4> smelled like an *** of a hipopotamus after a nice dump
<Genia4> a bit worse
<Genia4> put tons of talc inside
<Genia4> left it for a day or two
<Genia4> smell 99% gone
<Genia4> gonna leave it for another day
<Soronel> Genia: emacs allows you to cut three things then paste the first one you cut
<Genia4> Soronel: do you code with console emacs?
<Soronel> Genia: sometimes, sure
<Daveman> eww :P
<Genia4> and when not?
<Soronel> though since I run windows boxes and don't like programming for *nix it's been awhile
<Genia4> and what do you use on windows?
<Soronel> vs.net
<Genia4> obviously
<Genia4> I just love that thing
<Genia4> but, linux here
<Genia4> I have actually not a single clue as to why I'm running linux
<Genia4> nothing, nothing at all
<Genia4> but still I am
<Genia4> I mean
<Genia4> there's not a single linux app I Like more than the windows alternatives
<Genia4> other than amarok
<Genia4> yet...
<Two9A> I can make a map with two structs, right?
<berty> what about tux racer!
<Cowmoo> Genia4: because of peer pressure
<Two9A> map<ST1, ST2> foo; for example?
<jamesd-> Two9A: std::map<std::string, std::string> is a pretty common example.
<jamesd-> But please, call them cl***es rather than structs, it lowers my blood pressure.
<Genia4> if only I Had a second box
<Genia4> life would be so simple
<Cowmoo> isn't it ok as long as operator< is defined?
<Genia4> linux on one, windows on the other
<Soronel> Two: you can, but the key has to be comparable
<jamesd-> Cowmoo: < is defined and is a strict weak order or whatever it's required to be...
<Cowmoo> ya k
<Genia4> Let's say I boot window
<Genia4> s
<Genia4> I have mirc... I have vs.net
<Genia4> opera is the same
<Two9A> Soronel: Hrm. The key is a collection of 3 coordinates, basically. How can I do a compare on that :)
<Genia4> gaim is the same
<Genia4> amarok I lose, but I can live with that
<Genia4> I use no other software
<Genia4> but vs > anything on linux
<Cowmoo> three cordinates like a set of 3 pairs?
<Genia4> and I can still install cygwin
<Genia4> if I need a posix environment
<Cowmoo> or like (x,y,z)
<Soronel> Genia: and cygwin is becoming more powerful all the time
<Genia4> or maybe install linux in some vm
<Genia4> of some sort
<jamesd-> Two9A: lexicographical compare is a reasonable default choice.
<berty> i have an ubuntu vm here
<Genia4> Soronel: is kde/cygwin useable now?
<Genia4> I remember it being slow
<Soronel> Genia: I don't know, I use the win32 wm
<Genia4> what do you mean win32 wm?
<Genia4> what if you need to run a linux graphical app?
<Soronel> cygwin's X server has a mode where it produces win32 child windows
<Genia4> wow!
