<Drakh> I'm gonna leave recipient filtering off then. <Drakh> the load on the server is very low anyway <exchange2> Cant put my finger on the setting <WrldBFree> you can supress NDRs that are sent to list based groups I believe <Drakh> nah I've got pretty good spam filtering anyway <Drakh> the only reason the NDRS piled up was because i was being an idiot <Drakh> the exchange servers load is like 1-2% on average heh <Drakh> I bought the company a DL380 <Rizar_d> **** <Rizar_d> i wonder if mail.bellsouth.com got blacklisted again <Drakh> just call me Drakh <Drakh> are you using infinate monkeys or something like that <Drakh> wait that is gone now isn't it <Rizar_d> this guy is getting a 550 while trying to send to us <Rizar_d> i dont get it <Rizar_d> i dunno what to check <Rizar_d> the user sends mail just fine through his webmail account <Rizar_d> on the same isp <Rizar_d> when he uses outlook express, he gets a 550 trying to send to us <Rizar_d> theres nothing in the logs on my side, hes not even getting that far <Rizar_d> any of you have any ideas? <Rizar_d> i think its something in Outlook Express <Rizar_d> his settings are good though <DortoH> thats a relay error <Drakh> would it be because he doesn't have relaying enabled on smtp? <Envador> Rizard, outlook express sends via smtp, webmail is sent direct from server <Envador> some ISPs block access to all smtp port 25's besides their own smtp server. <Envador> (road runner in austin used to do that) <Envador> also, you might have him check the "my smtp server requires authentication" <Envador> riz, or you could pawn off owanotify to your user :) <Drakh> hmm pop3 is not starting on exchange <Drakh> (it is not disabled) <Drakh> it stopped responding after todays trauma <Drakh> everything else is working nice and fast <Drakh> anyone know how to get it to start without rebooting the server <Drakh> it's just staying at "starting" <Envador> you can go into the services and try starting it from there <Drakh> it's just saying "starting" in services <Drakh> so start stop etc is greyed out <Envador> mmm :\ <Envador> there was some article about how to get pop3 to start properly upon reboot <Envador> google for it <Drakh> you mean besides setting it from disabled to automatic? it's disabled by default <Drakh> It's been working for weeks <Drakh> darn I am exausted <Drakh> ill just go set those guys up with imap since that is working and reboot the server later <Drakh> there are no errors anywhere pertaining to pop <Drakh> meh <Envador> set them up as exchange, :P <Drakh> :( <Drakh> it is actually just one person <Drakh> and since they are using gay pop they can wait until after hours for me to restart the server <Phoenix--> how do i get two exchange servers in the same domain to route e-mails between them? <rworks> Phoenix--: They just do. <rworks> There's no configuration necessary. <rworks> Install them to the same exchange organization (you can only have one exchange org per forest) and you're done. <Phoenix--> I thought so too but neither exchange server will send mail to other <Phoenix--> it's as if they both think they're soley responsible for all e-mails in the domain <Phoenix--> server1.mydomain.com and server2.mydomain.com both handle mail for mydomain.com, but neither will route messages to the other <Phoenix--> i get an immediate failure notice saying that the mailbox doesn't exist <rworks> Are they both at the same site? <Phoenix--> right next to each other <rworks> In System Manager, do you see both servers? <Phoenix--> yep <rworks> I would turn enable message tracking. <rworks> See if you get any good information there. <Phoenix--> i've got smtp logging on, is this the same? if not, how? <rworks> No. <rworks> http://www.m***change.org/tutorials/The_Exchange_Message_Tracking_Center_or_How_to_Save_Your_A_in_a_Pinch.html <rworks> Read that. <rworks> It's a good intro. <pukey> what does A stand for <rworks> :) <rworks> Apple, I think. <rworks> I would also check the system logs. <rworks> And Application logs. <rworks> Plus make sure DNS is set up correctly. <pukey> and the Captian's Logs <pukey> dont forget those <rworks> And also search the web/usenet for the error message you get. <Phoenix--> yeah, my old exchange server is so broken that event viewer doesn't show any events - it's completely white <pukey> ouch... that doesnt sound healthy <rworks> Um, you think that may be part of the issue? <Phoenix--> i'm starting to hate the phrase "make sure dns is setup correctly" - i've looked at probably 50 different ways to set it up but no matter what i change nothing works <Phoenix--> i *think* it's setup correctly <Phoenix--> but who the **** knows <rworks> Funny how you get 20 minutes into troubleshooting before you hear some really important information. <rworks> I know. <Phoenix--> i can get on the internet and ping all of the computers in the domain and anyhting else outside but i can't two computers that sit right next to each other to exchange e-mail or replicate <rworks> You have a DNS server (probably a domain controller) for the domain. <Phoenix--> yes <rworks> And you should probably have a backup. <rworks> Make sure every computer in the domain uses those two DNS servers. <Phoenix--> for now, but i'm going to decom that dc when i'm done w/ exchange <rworks> Don't ever use external or public DNS servers. <Phoenix--> oh yeah, the new exchange server is the alt dns server <Phoenix--> nope, everyting's internal <rworks> Well, the event logs are your first and best troubleshooting tools. <rworks> Can you access the event logs of the old server from the new server? <rworks> Have you tried that? <Phoenix--> the other weird things going on include that the ex2k server (old one) can't send mail to hotmail and a few other sites - same symptoms - it just sits in the queue until it expires <Phoenix--> rworks, lemme see <rworks> Same symptoms? <rworks> You said the other issue was that you got an NDR saying the mailbox doesn't exist. <rworks> Mailbox doesn't exist should immediately bounce, it shouldn't sit in a queue. <Phoenix--> rworks, app log file on old server corrupt - just delete to fix? <Phoenix--> rworks, 2 scenarios <rworks> I dunno. <Phoenix--> if I send an e-mail to an account on the other computer using the address book it immediately bounces as NDR <Phoenix--> whereas if i type user@mydomain.com is sits int he queue <Phoenix--> correction, user@mailserver2.mydomain.com <rworks> Huh? <rworks> Why would you do user@mailserver2.mydomain.com ? <rworks> Is that an smtp address you ***igned the user? <Phoenix--> to see if the 2 servers will talk that way <rworks> The servername shouldn't be part of an SMTP address. <WrldBFree> lol <rworks> I mean, it *can*, but that would be silly. <Phoenix--> rworks, when i registered the comuter names w/ the university, they also setup mx records for each so there is an mx record for mailserver1.mydomain.edu, 1 for mailserver2.mydomain.edu, and 1 for mydomain.edu that points to mail1 pri 10 and mail2 pri 20. <rworks> That's screwy. <Phoenix--> no **** - one more thing to fix once i unkuck exchange <Phoenix--> un****, even <Phoenix--> rworks, thx for the help <^Adonis> you ever have that friend who like moved out to the suburbs like an hour away from town and you never seen him anymore and he calls you to come over for a cookout and you show up and you are the only person there and he really just wants you to work on his broken computer <nef-w> adonis: no, but thats hillarious <^Adonis> you ask him so where's the food and he says well what do you wanna eat I can boil some dumplings or hotdogs <^Adonis> and then the worst part is his wife comes home with McDonalds <nef-w> hahaha <Rizar_d> hahah <Rizar_d> ****er!!! <nef-w> no **** <wlse_pro> **** you man, it was broken <nef-w> it could only be worse if he drove to his work <wlse_pro> and you didn't even have your hotdog <nef-w> brough you to the server room <nef-w> and wanted you to work on that <nef-w> wlse_pro is the friend? <nef-w> hahahahha <wlse_pro> no, but it made for a good punchline ;) <|asp> exmerge is pissing me off lol, can someone please help me figure out what is wrong <|asp> i created a security group called exmerge admins <|asp> added a new user to it who is not also a member of admin group <|asp> delegated privs and granted proper send and receive as security rights <^Adonis> so then he tells me he can't sign on his ebay account anymore <^Adonis> so I am like ok easy enought to fix <^Adonis> I turn his computer on and 50 IE popups come on the screen <^Adonis> so bad I have manually shut the machine down <|asp> exch is runnin on the dc right now so i can't log in locally on that box. i tried logging in on the other 2k3 server but still can't run exmerge <nef-w> asp: where did you give it send/receive perms?
