<networkn> would stopping all the exchange related services and doing a <networkn> "cold backup" substitute for an exchange agent? <networkn> and allow for complete recovery ? <SBrick98> anyone know BES4 well? <SBrick98> ew <SBrick98> but yea <SBrick98> so much for uptime <SBrick98> why not just exmerge everything to PST and save those <SBrick98> (ok SIS... but that aside) <networkn> SBrick98: are you answering me with eww but yeah? <pukey> lol <pukey> sis <pukey> whats that <mes> i know bes 4 decently <SBrick98> networkn: yea <SBrick98> mes: oh really? cool :)... care to explain the components i'm gonna need if i'm throwing BES on a single server, w/ BB ports forwarded/redirected inbound (full outbound allowed)... local SQL server, local exch server (SBS 2000) <SBrick98> yes this is gonna be fun... i know <mes> ha <mes> well i use an sql server <mes> not locally <SBrick98> pukey: Single Instance Storage... means when u send an email w/ 100mb attachment to 50 people, server only uses 100mb to store, not 5gb <SBrick98> mes: i've got another, but for this case i'm thinkin local SQL will be fine <mes> k <SBrick98> documentation says MSDE is ok... and they both have the same 2gb limitation <SBrick98> and that's about the only limitation <mes> yeah ive used it with msde <mes> i just find its less intensive on the box to have sql elsewhere <mes> not that BES is much of a hog anyways <SBrick98> that's more my hope ;) <mes> i have 2 BES servers with 100 users each <mes> what questions did you have about it <SBrick98> yea... SBS is servin DC/exch/file/print for like 50 employees... BES for like 10-15... cpq DL380 G3 dual CPU (HT enabled) w/ 1gb RAM <SBrick98> prolly could use more RAM... but oh well <mes> yikes <SBrick98> oh... plus SAV + BackupExec9 <SBrick98> ;) <SBrick98> the barracuda means it's no longer running SAV-Exch <SBrick98> anyway... <SBrick98> wondering which components i need... was reading the docs and they had like half dozen diff components for diff setups, DMZs, etc <SBrick98> also... does install require the license key? <mes> hmm if i remember correctly i didnt have to forward any inbound ports at the firewall <mes> yes pretty sure install requires a license key <SBrick98> oh really? that'd be nice <SBrick98> hehe <SBrick98> cool... extra day ;) <mes> or whatever wierd licensing they have <mes> i really dislike the BES server <mes> once its up and running its pretty painless <mes> but man if it ****s up <mes> game over <SBrick98> lol <SBrick98> whatdya mean? <SBrick98> fuqs up how... what would cause it? <mes> SBrick98: upgrades usually <Seascrape> hi. anyone know anythign about administering exchange 2003 from commandline in windows xp? <DortoH> manage what? <Seascrape> maybe.. creating/disabling/deleting accounts <Seascrape> like, if there's an account in AD, you would have to right click and make accoutns for them for exchange <Seascrape> adding them TO ad with dsadd/dsmod/etc... <Seascrape> but to exchange.. ? <Seascrape> im really new to the exchange arena, so... <Seascrape> it tried to look for exchange support tools or something (like the other stuff that comes for win2k3 for (among other things) windows clients to remote administer) <Seascrape> it \ i <Seascrape> argh <Seascrape> sorry about typos <Adonis> sup dawgs <Envador> yo <Adonis> sup Envador <Seascrape> anyone here use the windows2003 adminpack on xp ? <Phoenix--> Anyone here? <wlse_pro> yup <Phoenix--> k <Adonis> lol why even ask <Phoenix--> I'm looking for some help with Exchange 2003. I have it setup on a Windows 2003 Server but the services keep stopping with the following errors: <Phoenix--> Unexpected error <<0xc103073a - Unable to create the required MAPI profile. Please verify that you have sufficient permissions to write to the MAPISVC.INF file.>> occurred. <Phoenix--> System Attendant Service failed to create session for virtual machine HALSEY. The error number is 0xc103073a. <Phoenix--> The Win32 API call 'DsGetDCNameW' returned error code [0x54b] The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. The service could not be initialized. Make sure that the operating system was installed properly. <Phoenix--> Clearly the exchange server (halsey) is having difficulty talking with the DC's/GC's (Maury, NROTC00) but I've tried all of the recommended solutions from support.microsoft.com <J2k^> hav eyou call microsoft? <Phoenix--> nope, i'm hopefully talking to some local tech guys tomorrow but I'd rather figure this out <J2k^> why not <J2k^> something like this <J2k^> work suppose to pay for it <Phoenix--> true <mes> Phoenix--: dcdiag and netdiag test out ok? <mes> on the dcs and on exchange? <Phoenix--> mes, yes <Phoenix--> I installed exchane and sp2 with norton av installed but real-time protect disabled. several websites recommend uninstalling all av prior to installing or upgrading exchange. <mes> are these real boxes or virtual machines? <Phoenix--> seems a bit drastic to me but i guess i'll uninstall and start over w/o exchange tomorrow <Phoenix--> real machines <J2k^> this is lab? <J2k^> or prodution? <Phoenix--> J2k^^, it is production but the exchange 2000 server is carrying things for now <Eberus> anyone have and exchange 2003 cbts? <Drakh> who <Drakh> whooo <Drakh> day 1 of the exchange go live is over :P <Drakh> im still alive <Drakh> no one is losing email <Drakh> good enough for me <reb00t> good job <reb00t> are you migrating from another messaging solution? <Drakh> linux imap <reb00t> ah <reb00t> oh well, bedtime for me <reb00t> i need my fugly sleep <Drakh> :< <Drakh> don't go <Drakh> I will be sad <Drakh> like this: <Drakh> :{ <reb00t> haha <Drakh> ok you can go <Drakh> I will go watch startrek :> <reb00t> haha <reb00t> gee thanks <Drakh> whoa <Drakh> I got banned from #linux <Drakh> for telling one of the ops he acts like a borg <pukey> I could be lieve it <pukey> there is a cool linux channel though <pukey> #linux-help I think <pukey> #linuxhelp <pukey> its #linuxhelp thats the cool channel <Drakh> debian on freenode is really good <Drakh> tons of helpful people who aren't jerks about things <Drakh> like you guys <3 <Adonis> damn jerks is kind of harsh <Whitor> hi <Rizar_d> so how does mailbox manager decide what is over 30 days old? The policy i setup says delete anything in deleted items over 30 days old, it did for most users, but for some, theyre still there. <Rizar_d> Folder Deleted Items Contents: 3619 Items (214.40 MB) <Rizar_d> Folder Deleted Items Done: 0 Items Processed, 0 Items Moved (0 KB), 0 Items Deleted (0 KB) <Rizar_d> This guy actually had emails from june, so thats over 30 days old, why they didnt get deleted i dunno <mes> isnt it 30 days after they are deleted? not when they are created? <Rizar_d> maybe.. <sbq> it's 30 days from their recieve date to the mailbox <sbq> that guys mailbox might have some corruption in it preventing the mailbox manager from running correctly <|asp> is there offline synchronization for public folders like a public contact list? <sbq> yes <sbq> if you add a folder to your favorites list you can sync it <|asp> do i need to choose the option to also download public folder favorites in the exchange accoutn setup <sbq> Send/Recieve should do it <sbq> you can customize the sync by right clicking on the folder in Favorites and going to the Synchronization tab <|asp> k thanks <mes> http://x2.putfile.com/10/29700173131.gif <Adonis> sup guys <Whitor> efnet <Adonis> yawn
