<mdasilva_> has anyone used metaedit before? <pukey> I think the solution to Event ID 1 is to turn your machine of and on rapidly until it stops beeping <cyberfrg> lol <mdasilva_> cyberfrg corrupt metabase <mdasilva_> ... <cyberfrg> mdasilva_: no f-ing idea <cyberfrg> did you do the manual restore <mdasilva_> no i have to move some virtual smtp servers around, then some mailboxes before i fiddle with the metabase <mdasilva_> i could be asking for alot more problems otherwise <Envador> so on windows server 2003, local policy overrides domain policy? <cyberfrg> no <Envador> hmm <Envador> i have a server that's joined a domain <mdasilva_> i had that too <Envador> in the Local Security Settings of that server "Allow lo on through Terminal Services" is set for Administrators, Remote Desktop Users. However, I'm not a local user on that server. I can't log on to that server unless i use the Administrator login for the domain. Even though my personal username has administrative rights. <Envador> lemme add my personal username as a member of the domain admins and see what happens <cyberfrg> that means only local administers and remote desktop users ... you can modify the LSP and add domain admins/domain users there <cyberfrg> that should work <Envador> mmm yeah that did it <Envador> that was a bunch of a hoopla for a whole lotta nuthin' <cyberfrg> hehe <Envador> hehehe <cyberfrg> RDP/TS permissions are stuipd <cyberfrg> stupid <Envador> that too :) <mdasilva_> adaptec 2230slp or lsi megaraid 320-2e ? <mdasilva_> who wins <cyberfrg> i do <Envador> no, i do <mdasilva_> humm.. <Envador> the point is.. <Envador> they're close enough? :) <mdasilva_> kinda <mdasilva_> small tradeoffs <mdasilva_> i guess the one with better warranty would be best.. unless it breaks all the time <Envador> i don't deal hands-on with hardware anymore now that we've been managed hosting for almost 2 years now <Envador> i kind of miss it <mdasilva_> then again.. the other preforms better with our applications <mdasilva_> we have a bit of both <mdasilva_> the half thats here.. is configured like **** <mdasilva_> who do you guys host with? <Envador> the planet <mdasilva_> they good? <cyberfrg> i hear frontbridge is going to start doing some interesting exchange hosting things <Envador> the 24/7techs aren't very knowledgeable... but the managed services team is good. <mdasilva_> we use mci and rackspace <Envador> mci has managed hosting? <mdasilva_> rackspace is amazing.. mci = complete **** <mdasilva_> yeah they used to be digex <Envador> ah ok. <mdasilva_> mci is the worst <Envador> i've heard good things about rackspace. <mdasilva_> they are fast as hell in tech responses <cyberfrg> what kind of performance hits do you take <Envador> we dish out $7800/month for 9 servers <mdasilva_> i dont deal with money <mdasilva_> just the bs <Envador> i don't either, but i'm just nosey <Envador> <-- nosey parker <mdasilva_> i think mci uses sticky notes to p*** services requests along <Envador> HAHAHA <mdasilva_> have you guys tried panda antivirus for exchange? <Envador> well the planet isn't much better <mdasilva_> ive had all 3 urget service requests deal within 15 minutes of reporting to rackspace <mdasilva_> mci ... 2 1/2 hours <Envador> hmm well i guess the planet is good about response then <Envador> it's usually within 5 minutes <mdasilva_> wow.. thats amazing <mdasilva_> 5 minutes from when u submit the problem? <Envador> but i'll ask things like, "how ddid the trojan get on the machine? when was the first instance detected? Aren't we antivirus protected?" <Envador> and their answer will be, "the server is rebooted and working" <mdasilva_> lol <pukey> trojan got on your machine because you are a gullible dumb*** <pukey> just tell him the truth <Envador> :P <pukey> I dont know how it got on your computer. I am not the end user of your computer. <pukey> why dont you ask the end user of the computer <pukey> oh? you are the end user? <pukey> then ask yourself <mdasilva_> lol <Envador> it was one of our less-used servers <Envador> i suspected it was an unpatched SQL service <mdasilva_> pukey works for planet <pukey> oh the server got a trojan? <Envador> but they went through and eradicated everything, touched all the files, redid all the file dates <Envador> so much for backtracking :( <pukey> it was a server? <mes> so mutch for patching/virus protection <mes> and i just spelled mutch with a t <mes> thats aweosme <pukey> yer on crack <pukey> CRACK I SAY <mdasilva_> have you guys deleted a virtual smtp server through the metaedit before? <Envador> yeah so much for protection <Envador> what can i say, at envador's work, quality is job one. <Envador> i'm just now cleaning up servers. the guy before didn't know what he was doing <Envador> he installed OFFICE on the servers because he wanted the server to send out emails! <mes> lol <Envador> *sigh* <mdasilva_> nice <Envador> and our sql active/p***ive cluster ... the p***ive node doesn't work <mes> format the p***ive box <mes> use it for personal use <Envador> the cluster service is able to hand off the ownership of the service to server02, and on server02 sql server starts and looks fine, but the ports don't respond <Envador> mes, no need <mdasilva_> yeah i can use a ftp site on your server <Envador> there are TWO boxes unused <mdasilva_> ftp and game serv pls <Envador> they were clustered sql server pair Try #1 <Envador> they just sit there, powered on. <Envador> i'm cleaning them up now. <Envador> (just installed SP1 on them heh heh heh. quality is job one) <mdasilva_> for a frontend exchange server that has an smtp server on it... <mdasilva_> does a store need to be mounted? <mdasilva_> or just exist? <Drakh> quick <Drakh> someone hold me! <mdasilva_> uhoh <mdasilva_> one of my mailbox stores is missing the systemmailbox... <mdasilva_> this cannot be a preformance booster... <mdasilva_> any way to restore the systemmailbox of a store? <Drakh> Yessss <Drakh> say <Drakh> a folder in my inbox just dissapeared yesturday :/ <Drakh> it's not in deleted items or the recovery area <Adonis> I like to call it veritas <mes> watch those mouse clicks! <mdasilva_> ... <mdasilva_> ack.. <mdasilva_> wtf <Drakh> hmm <Drakh> anyone know how I can get it back besides restoring it from backup <mdasilva_> what happens when there isnt a sytemmailbox account for a exchange server? <DortoH> The system mailbox is <DortoH> used for replication messages, internal processing, etc. <Envador> i need to colocate 3 servers in OC <mdasilva_> hum.. <Envador> any suggestions? <mdasilva_> well one server does not have a systemmailbox <mdasilva_> its totally gone.. and im experiencing message delivery problems from that server to my other exchange boxes.. although it can successfully deliver mail to external domains <Hobart> quick question, I'm remotely restarting a server with Exchange on it with "shutdown" on the command line, it's taking over 10 minutes to shut down ... in the future, I think it will shutdown faster if I stop certain Exchange services first? <mdasilva_> probably depends on why its taking 10 minutes to shut down <Hobart> Unfortunately all of the command line process listing tools are dependant on the WMI or somesuch <Hobart> So I can see it's stopped the SMTP / imap services, and IIS, but can't see what's hanging it. :\ <mdasilva_> yeah that ****s <rworks> Hobart: Ask in #windows. <rworks> :) <rworks> Hobart: Let me guess, the Exchange server is also a domain controller, right? <Hobart> yep.
