<Nettty> I opened links and got a config error something with svgalib but still, it opened. no frames. Later on (as root) I thought I might try it so I opened links again (all same version, same program) I saw my pretty menus like I should, google frames and everything. I thought that it might be a root/users issue or maybe (sounds odd I know) a virtual terminal issue or maybe a config I didn't do right... it just seems that at times it uses my frameb <anyweb> did you google the error <anyweb> a. yes <anyweb> b. no <anyweb> if b. then google <graz> svgalib is funky if at all functoinal with non-root users <Nettty> anyweb: yes it's a root/user permission prob? <graz> yes <anyweb> looks like it <peano> how can i read an ebook in linux? <graz> just for a test, suid the links binary and try in graphics mode again as a user <peano> it's an encrypted EBX PDF <anyweb> did you pay for the ebook <graz> hahahahahah <graz> as if <peano> anyweb: my university did <anyweb> well ask them for the answer <anyweb> .google linux how to read an encrypted EBX PDF <peano> they dont know anything <LAMBCHOP> http://tinyurl.com/8r32p <anyweb> try LAMBCHOP then <anyweb> maybe he knows <peano> already tried <peano> linux = bad <pup> *** <Nettty> hehe <Nettty> I got (ran links as user) Unable to find or create links config directory. Please check, that you have $HOME variable set correctly and that you have write permission to your home directory. <bougyman> peano: <bougyman> oh crap <bougyman> that was too much. <bougyman> what I meant to paste was adobe saying they will not support eBook on linux unless that platform (linux) becomes more widely used. <Death_Syn> sounds like time for teh macintosh <peano> yes i read that <peano> though i didnt see anything about wide usage <peano> in the final analysis, linux is not a practical desktop solution <bougyman> Does the Acrobat eBook Reader run on Linux? <bougyman> We do not currently plan to develop a version for the Linux platform, but we may in the future if that platform becomes more widely used. <peano> and thats 6 years of analysis <bougyman> that part. <peano> oh <bougyman> i've used linux as a desktop solution for 9 years. <Death_Syn> hmm <Death_Syn> ebooks just don't taste as good as paper boks <Death_Syn> er books <Nettty> peano: I'm sure you'll find some sort of compatible reader for that file format, even something cheap like an editor. google it. it doesnt have to be adobe <peano> Nettty, theres nothing <peano> from the looks of it <bougyman> if I were to wish to read an eBook (i don't), i'd just load adobe reader in wine. <Nettty> ss <Nettty> oops <Nettty> bougyman: clever <Nettty> peano: emulate <Death_Syn> i think i read one on my treo once <Nettty> graz: you there man? <bougyman> yeah, my cell phone used to read them fine. <bougyman> they're horrible, overall <bougyman> i prefer paper > pdf. <peano> www.vault.com <bougyman> for a book, anyway. <peano> these books dont come in paper <peano> theyre up to date career / interview guides <Nettty> peano: can you give us examples? <bougyman> they say they do, peano <bougyman> Available in: PDF Download and Paperback Print Version <peano> er <peano> well <peano> i'm not about to buy it <bougyman> i'm able to read the pdfs from that site. <Nettty> hehe, thats a different story <jobo_> I'm trying to setup my wireless network. It seems that the card is working ok now. I used iwconfig to set the SSID and the key. I the used ifconfig to set the ipaddress, broadcast and network addresses. My computer has one wireless and one "none-wireless" cards. I tried to pull the cable out to test if it was working but it wasn't. Do I need to do anything to tell my system to use either eth0 or eth1? <bougyman> with straight PdfViewer.app <graz> Nettty: DO you have write access to $HOME? <peano> if(doesnt work in linux){return to stone age} <peano> bougyman, those are not the pay-to-read ones <Nettty> graz: right... I set my $home via root and forgot to change its access, thanks <graz> $HOME NOT $home <arno> there's no place like ~ <bougyman> ahahaha <bougyman> i found out why there's no open source software to do this, peano. <bougyman> blame the Gov <bougyman> http://www.eff.org/IP/DMCA/US_v_Elcomsoft/20010707_complaint.html <graz> that russian dude that got beat <Death_Syn> evil DMCA <graz> that was what, 2 years ago? <graz> ok, maybe 4 years ago :) <Death_Syn> it is a worse virus than that dastardly GPL <Nettty> graz: my $home and $HOME are the same <Death_Syn> i think it's beginning to pwn south america now <Nettty> (as my user I mean, not as root) <bougyman> Death_Syn: got sfs homes working peachy <Death_Syn> oooh <bougyman> :) <bougyman> it's easier than nfs <bougyman> amazingly. <peano> yeah that's real practical guys <bougyman> auth options pam_sfs.so <bougyman> er auth optional pam_sfs.so <Phaid> woot. ordered new pc. <peano> ebook read in linux = copyright circumvention <Death_Syn> there's a pam module!? cool <Nettty> graz: how should I chmod /home/myuser for <myuser> ?? <bougyman> then just have /sfs/hostname/home/username in the p***word file as thier home. <peano> ebook read in windows = no copyright circumvention <peano> do you realize that books would stop being published if they werent copy protected? <bougyman> peano: the window software pays adobe to do it. <bougyman> if a company wanted to do the same and make software for linux they could. <bougyman> the open source community, however, cannot, because of the above case. <bougyman> and many books are now published under the open documentation license and other common licenses. <bougyman> so no, they wouldn't stop being published. <graz> Nettty: why would you have to chmod it? <graz> Nettty: and nothing reads $home, its not a system variable <graz> variable names ARE case sensitive <Nettty> bbl <Phaid> unf.
