<silverbyt> well... i knew about linux in 1998
<jjshoe> perhaps you should use something a little more newbie friendly like redhat, fedora, mandrake, suse

<silverbyt> i d/l that (5megs on dialup 14.4 modem)

<silverbyt> and untared it...
<silverbyt> and voila.... p***wd file retrieved..
<silverbyt> then i used john the cracker 4 nights straight
<silverbyt> and i cracked 2000 p***words...
<silverbyt> so YTES i thought i weas leet, and YES i had fre intenet for 2 years
<silverbyt> (dialup)
<silverbyt> but all i knew to do was directory browsing...

<Trey> what an idiot
<Riaf> lol
<Riaf> heh its kinda sad that kick msgs on irc grab my attention... oh well
<NetDreamz> anyone know of a linux distro that will allow me to install a system from a couple of floppies
<cyberyak> damnsmall linux
<cyberyak> the question is how many floppies?
<NetDreamz> I have two
<NetDreamz> and I get an error with DSL
<cyberyak> ahh
<NetDreamz> I get can't find KNOPPIX filesystem
<Trey> you might try toms rtbt
<cyberyak> do you have network connectivitiy?
<NetDreamz> yep
<NetDreamz> the internet
<NetDreamz> no other systems
<cyberyak> you might try one of the network install disks
<cyberyak> I used to install redhat that way.
<cyberyak> 1 boot floppy and install from the 'net
<NetDreamz> you know where the image files are, I know that that's quite a bit to ask but I've been all over google the past hour
<cyberyak> www.ibiblio.net or www.distrowatch.com
<cyberyak> choose the distro and they should link to the mirrors
<rogermore> Hello,.. Everyone,.. I have a question,.. I'm using Man 10.1 and I have SSH installed but when I tried to SSH from a windows Machine using Putty I get a Network error connection refused,... I checked to make sure the server because I can hit it locally... any ideas?
<Abydos313> your local firewall is blocking it
<Abydos313> find configuration of firewall and open port 22 tcp/ip
<rogermore> hmm... I think your right...
<rogermore> good looking out
<Abydos313> :)
<rogermore> I have another question,.. I have a router in place giving out address locally.. and I want to be able to connecto to my machines from work,.. especailly my linuxbox,.. ? how would I do something like that... I have one of those linksys routers in place.. I can use portwarding>? but I'm open to options? ; - )
<Abydos313> that is exactly how you do it. you forward the ports to the ip of the linux box..
<rogermore> hmm.. so how will I hit it from the outside?
<rogermore> like from work... : - )
<newry> does anyone know how i can restrick outbound internet access to a application on Suse?
<Abydos313> when you have ports forwarded..it does just that. when ssh hits the router ip it p***es the ssh traffic to the ip of the machine hosting the service
<metaphaze> Hello
<newry> how do i disable port fowarding?
<rogermore> Good Looking Out... Abydos313... Thanks.. I'm reconf my firewall to see if I can hit it....
<Abydos313> good luck
<metaphaze> How can I make Linux boot directly to console, *no* X Windows Server?
<rogermore> Good Looking Out... IT WORKED>... : - 0
<rogermore> Your The Man.. : - )
<Abydos313> p*** out the same advise to the next guy with the same issue ;)
<rogermore> Hey... I know there is a way to write a command to connect to your fav irc,.. right but I forgot how to do it,.. something like BitchX roger@ircnet? something like this?
<rogermore> PLus What Server IS This?
<newry> ?
<rogermore> Hey... I know there is a way to write a command to connect to your fav irc,.. right but I forgot how to do it,.. something like BitchX roger@ircnet? something like this?
<newry> looks like a client and hostname

<newry> you mean ./server irc.name.com 6667?
<rogermore> no not really.. its more like Bitchx junior@efnet.irc.net
<rogermore> something like that?
<newry> bitchx junior.efnet.irc.net
<newry> if thats a real server
<newry> Bitchx irc.efnet.org
<rogermore> : - ) thats it..
<newry> =p
<newry> i cant use bx
<newry> it annoys me.
<rogermore> whats BX?
<newry> bitchX
<rogermore> oh.. why?
<Chris--> irssi is much easier
<rogermore> what do you use?
<metaphaze> Does anyone know how I can get Linux to boot without starting the xwindows server?
<rogermore> oh.....
<newry> dunno, the console too blah
<Chris--> MUCH more tolerable
<metaphaze> I just want straight console
<newry> im using kvirc
<metaphaze> newry: try xchat or bitchx
<newry> is xchat still free?
<metaphaze> Ofcourse!
<rogermore> lol..
<metaphaze> www.xchat.org
<Trey> irssi is good too
<newry> maybe they just charge for the windows version
<metaphaze> I think your thinking of mIRC
<rogermore> by the way I'm Junior from Cali,... I think I will be stopping by more often..
<cyberyak> there is a compiled version called xchat2 for windows
<newry> You may use X-Chat for Windows for free for 30 days. If, after this time, you would like to continue using the product, you are required to register. Registration is a one time fee of $20 USD (United States Dollars) which can be paid using the PayPal service below.
<newry> they charge for windows version now
<newry> think linux is still free tho =p
<cyberyak> google.com/linux search for xchat2
<Trey> thats lame
<cyberyak> silverx.com
<cyberyak> maybe
<newry> i need help blocking internet rights to a application
<cyberyak> something about compiling it with some non-gpl module to make the Windows version
<juniorbis> hmm.. you got me...
<newry> prob just a plea for money
<juniorbis> whats the name of this server?
<newry> i dont blame em tho
<newry> everyone uses mirc on windows anyway
<newry> efnet...
<cyberyak> I use Xchat 2 for my windows boxes
<Trey> why not use ssh?
<newry> I dont know anything about ssh
<newry> guess i should tho, I got a A in network security protocols in school last semester
<Trey> newry: can your write your own rsa implementation?
<newry> i can write my abc`s
<newry> =p
<metaphaze> Well it looks like after reading /etc/inittab I want to use Runlevel 3
<metaphaze> Full multiuser with networking, but no xdm
<smithzv> interesting.
<Trey> just change the initdefault line
<bougyman> sup trey
<bougyman> how ya feeling?
<Trey> bougyman: like ***
<bougyman> damn +g
<newry> why you wanna boot to console
<metaphaze> Trey thats what im doing now :)
<newry> install video drivers?
<metaphaze> newry: negative, I don't need X on this machine
<newry> ah, thats hardcore =)
<metaphaze> I want it installed just incase
<metaphaze> but its gonna be a remote machine, and I don't want resources being taking up for things I don't need
<metaphaze> basically this machine is going to be my mp3 server :)
<smithzv> What distro are you using for that?
<metaphaze> smithzv: SuSE since I had it laying around
<metaphaze> I use SuSE on my laptop, but would have prefered to use Slackware, but I already had SuSE on DVD :)
<smithzv> Yeah, I really don't like when they force you into a gui out of the box...
