<trompe> Timur: sounds like a noble string of employment... the last natural disaster we had here was 16 years ago, and it was only a 5.6 magnitude earthquake in a small city. There's a lack of good causes for p***ionate people, so their excess will spills over into squabbling in the political sphere.

<trompe> Timur: all voting for federal and state parliamentarians is compulsory here, but local council elections receive huge voluntary turnouts, and the machineries of the two major parties are huge... they have incredibly large bases of active members, and significant university presences that run campaigns with huge numbers of volunteers... and all that political will is wasted on partisanship
