<plusplusc> but it's a lot easier to bury stuff in sand than dirt laced with tree roots
<hans_kung> can't bury power cables in Florida due to low water tables, right?
<occ_> power lines are underground here, and no deaths yet
<panini> DMXRoid: compelling? it's obvious
<Rayvyn> hell journalists put their lives on the line more often than anyone outside the military and if one came out with a report that made bush look bad, they would call them traitors
<CryArvach> hans...sort of
<DStewart> DMXRoid, it's not a claim that can be disproved except by the specific number. It may be .72/1, .79/1, whatever.
<plusplusc> hans: you have to enclose the lines in waterproof casing
<TimothyW> Enron had a National Security Flag on it. That's why they had to go broke and not get a Government Bail out.
<DStewart> DMXRoid, but it's a meaningless claim without context.
<CryArvach> that would be the only safe way to run Fibre though
<surlly> MYou can bury the sub lines. The main lines would loose too much power to parasitic induction below ground with the high water table here
<TomM--> hans_kung not true...phone, cable, and electrical are under ground in the Clearwater area.
<DStewart> DMXRoid, the question is, for the same thing, and holding all other factors equivalent
<CryArvach> Enron dealt in Energy holdings....special oversight required
<occ_> the Clearwater area?
<plusplusc> surlly: that's true, especially if the water is brackish
<occ_> what are you, a Scientologist? ;)
<TimothyW> the Flag was is in it's SEC Filings.
<hans_kung> you must be near Wilmington plusplus
<hans_kung> pretty area
<DMXRoid> DStewart: yes, but that number is actually invalid, because it compares the income of all men against all women, not in profession & experience equivalent areas
<hans_kung> kinda
<panini> occ every time some poor schmoe digs his turnip garden he'll get electrocuted
<DStewart> DMXRoid, now, when you drill into the number, it's pretty much explainable without invidious discrimination.
<TomM--> occ...LOL.....no, but if I stay on this channel much longer I may become one! :)
<TimothyW> CryArvach : did you read the SEC filings of CALPINE ?
<plusplusc> hans: our beach house is in Sunset Beach, the last island in North Carolina before the South Carolina line. But we live permanently in Raleigh
<CryArvach> my Sister suffered no pay discrepancy...
<DStewart> DMXRoid, yes, that's what I mean by it being meaningless without context.
<DMXRoid> DStewart: of course it is. Most of it is accounted for by lifestyle and priority differences
<CryArvach> but she was high high up the ladder
<DStewart> DMXRoid, so it's not false.
<hans_kung> oh wow, my bro lives near the Farmers Market on Wheeler Road :P
<DStewart> In itself.
<hans_kung> in Raleigh
<panini> there is no gender inequity for the same jobs
<DMXRoid> DStewart: sure, it's not false, it's just continually used out of context
<surlly> http://www.petpreservations.com/story4.html
<TimothyW> CryArvach : the 2001 SEC Filings of CALPINE ?
<CryArvach> where I work.. a gal there 10 years makes 15 cents more an hour than I make...
<CryArvach> I have been there 6 months
<plusplusc> hans: near N.C. State U. (and also incidentally, the state mental hospital that's about to close ;=)
<DStewart> DMXRoid, so why do you ask for a disproof of the specific claim??
<surlly> I want to freeze dry my dog in a positioin of him humping the cat
<hans_kung> yah. he works at USDA
<hans_kung> Centennial Campus
<TomM--> Cry wow...she makes 4.40 an hour??? :))
<TimothyW> plusplusC : Broughton ?
<DStewart> You know it's not an inaccurate ratio.
<tweek> what's the topic?
<Lupine> Cry: You get any of those pesky looters yet?
<plusplusc> TimothyW: Nope - we live in Sanderson district
<DMXRoid> DStewart: so, to be more precise, what I'm really looking for is an article that explains why the number is out of context for the argument, which would generally be in article disproving inequal pay for equal work
<CryArvach> Enron and all other companies like it are subject to special oversight...due to their business
<DStewart> (Well, that number may be, but the ratio is <1/1
<CryArvach> no Lupine
<DMXRoid> DStewart: it's just an addition to the analyitical argument that I'm making
<Lupine> damn, better luck tomorrow
<DStewart> Ahhh, okay.
<DMXRoid> I'd like to have a non-me source who makes the claim as well
<TimothyW> plusplusc : you know what Broughton is right ?
<CryArvach> TomM-- step out of your red socialist utopian dream...
<TomM--> lol
<Lupine> Cry: they are talking about giving grants to those without insurance.. but not for those with insurance to cover deductables.. what the ****???
<CryArvach> that is...step away from the hookah you are whoffing
<panini> DMXRoid: hopefully this is not for a shcool paper...
<occ_> hehe
<plusplusc> Timothy: yes I do. They're in the same sports conference, and a large number of my daughter's club soccer teammates go to broughton.
<CryArvach> :upine...you knwo the federal government...
<strider_> futbol
<plusplusc> I watched a boys soccer game at broughton last week
<occ_> people, PLEASE!
<panini> DMXRoid: because you'll get a bad grade if you address that topic
<CryArvach> reward irresponsibility...penalize responsibility
<Lupine> cry: Yep.
<DMXRoid> panini: naw, don't you get suspended for saying that kind of thing?
<TimothyW> plusplusC : Broughton is a little town that has a Mental Hospital.
<CryArvach> Lupine..you should have sired some illegitimate kids...then you would be da ****
<hans_kung> 45 minutes travel from NYC to Ral via plane. Train-11 hours.
<Rayvyn> Cry, You must be talking about corporate welfare and farm subsidies
<CryArvach> better yet..do that and knock over some convenience stores
<Lupine> Cry: I tell ya, I havn't been so beat tired in ages.. been swinging a chainsaw
<TimothyW> Enron had a Asbestos Lawsuits also.
<CryArvach> Rayvyn..Enron Tyco and WorldCom are examples of corp. coddling...
<Lupine> this morning, was with the firedepartment ***isting FPL clearing trees and powerlines
<CryArvach> BOTH types of Welfare...****!
<CryArvach> because WE pay for it!!!
<tweek> don't forget Amtrak
<surlly> All aboard!
<sym`> Cry pays for *** too, but he doesn't ***** about that ....
<CryArvach> Amtrak should be tossed out on its ear...
<sym`> ;p
<tweek> oh, you're talking about something completely different
<occ_> amtrak trains are quite pleasant to take
<TimothyW> CryArvach : no it Enron Tyco and WorldCom are examples of Bloatation.
<occ_> i must say
<occ_> but its just not cost effective
<CryArvach> A private Amtrak would make money
<occ_> i doubt it
<CryArvach> yes it would...
<occ_> theres nothing inherently "bloated" about amtrak
<occ_> its that people DONT TAKE THE TRAIN
<plusplusc> Cry: I don't know that Amtrack would, outside of some scenic and commuter corridors.
<occ_> because theres no reason to
<TomM--> CryArvach did you see that report about the guy in NY that ran up a 241k bill at a strip club?
<CryArvach> it provides a needed means of transport...
<occ_> since airfare is so cheap
<CryArvach> where there is profit...they will come
<Rayvyn> But the personal welfare that people get doesn't cost much and the average person that gets on that welfare stays on it for a few months in their whole life. there are a few people who are long term. but corporate welfare and subsidies cost a lot more than personal welfare
<TimothyW> occ_ : no Amtrak isn't bloated like Enron and Tyco and WorldCom was.
<CryArvach> Trains are more cost effective on shorter runs
<occ_> theres no profit in long-distance rail travel in the USA
<occ_> thats the thing
<plusplusc> TomM: He must have spent the night in the Penthouse couch room
<hans_kung> Cry- From NYC to DC, it's only 3 hours-the halfway point. from DC to Ral, it's another 8 hours, and it's due to Amtrack not able to install high speed track south of DC.
<tweek> are most municipal grids the property of the city, or of the companies that utilize them, or...?
<CryArvach> also..lower cost of freight shipment
<strider_> i prefer the train to plane..
<CryArvach> hans..why can't they?
<hans_kung> they say lack of funding
<hans_kung> it's very expensive
<occ_> flying kinda ****s
<CryArvach> aha!!!!!!!!!!!!
<occ_> i used to love it when i was a kid
<plusplusc> Tom: You could hire 241 nights with 1000 per night hookers for that, and actually get laid for that amount of money
<CryArvach> you think a private concern would not get the money?
<TomM--> plusplusc he got nailed cuz he put in on the company credit card.
<occ_> oh right a private rail line would be so successful
<CryArvach> yes it would be expensive...
<occ_> if thats the case, why arent any private companies trying it?
<occ_> answer: ITS NOT PROFITABLE.
<CryArvach> but profit would trump the expense in the long run
<hans_kung> Cry, it's true, it's like if the govt ran a trucking company and complained about slow speeds because the roads were ****ty. If you don't get the roads in shape, ur bound to have poor service and delays. (pardon that god awful pun).
<plusplusc> TomM: I know - I read the story. Someone with that much incredible stupidity and lack of discretion shouldn't be CEO of a company
<TimothyW> I rather would give Hookers money to get off of the side of the street and work for there money legit.
<CryArvach> occ...wrong...
<CryArvach> here is another example...
<strider_> wrong!
<CryArvach> a SHS rail line from Santa Ana CA to West las Vegas would cost billions...
<TomM--> plusplus..well he said he was entertaining clients, that is was part of doing business. I wanna do business with him! LOL
<plusplusc> Timothy: in other countries they legalize it, or at least decriminalize prostitution, so long as the "action" stays off the street directly
<hans_kung> Train is nice, it's relaxing. But after 11 hours, your *** gets numb.
<TimothyW> CryArvach : do you remember Jedi and Jedi 2 and other companies made by Enron ?
<CryArvach> but do you realize how many people would take a 1 hour train ride to Vegas??
<occ_> that would be a "commuter line" ;)
<occ_> but also, who lives within an hour by train of vegas?
