<Lotec> My dog growled at me about twice before we got that straight
<Emil^> when my brother visits - their dogs wont listen to anyone and always sit on my dad's chairs/sofas

<Emil^> here's a great thing about dogs..........of all the home broken into in the united states 'only 10% have a dog'
<Lotec> I like big dogs cause you can tell which is which growl
<CometBaby> well big dogs can certainly do a better job of defending you .. but a small dog can make a lot of noise and thats very helpful too
<Emil^> as far as i'm concerned the BEST reason to have a dog - is simply for them to make noise - doens't matter how big they are (tho i really dont care for small dogs sorry)
<Lotec> My dog only makes noise if she can't get to whatever is bothering her
<Emil^> lotec - a friend of mine actually got his dog's vocal cords snipped (a schnouzer or something) i was pissed off at him

<Emil^> the only breeds i've ever had have been 2x collies, a golden retreiver, black lab, & irish setter

<Lotec> Had an English Sheepdog when I was little that thought she was my mom

<Emil^> ....thinking of security - this has been about 5 years ago, but our last collie woke us up when someone was trying to get into our yard......
<Emil^> they were climbing over the fence and eyeing our back door
<Emil^> the dog woke my mom up - she woke me up, i got a gun - then dialed 911 and watched
<Emil^> and yep - the cops did their job and arrested teh bastards - they had already hit like 3 or 4 houses (tho their get away pickuptruck driver got away)
<Lotec> Just as well, he could warn the rest about whose house to stay away from
<Emil^> again more of a cat person - but when i do buy my own home - i'm gonna get a dog
<Lotec> Yeah, a dog needs some outdoors space to claim
<Emil^> when i moved to an apartment i got 2 things - a hangun and a cat
<Emil^> when i move to a home (i hope to one day) - i'll have to #1 get a dog

<Emil^> lotec - and yeah a dog without room to run, i think that's sad - i dont play those chained linked kennels
<Emil^> if you do own a dog - i think it's your responsiblity to not only keep him/her healthy, but also to groom, exercise and train them
<Emil^> and amen - they have to have room to run
<CometBaby> A cousin of mine has a pit bull that he keeps inside at night. The dog was barking one night so his wife went into the kitchen and saw the shadow of a man go past the window. She told her husband and he said "Let the dog out" .. so she did.
<CometBaby> She said it was awful. The dog hit the ground running and shortly after that she heard someone screaming HELP

<CometBaby> by then my cousin had his pants on and was out the door .. he said a man had run and climbed up on the fence and the dog had his leg. The man was screaming for help.
<Lotec> Anyone innocent wouldn't have been outside their window
<CometBaby> They called the police. It was a meter man who had been there earlier in the day and had seen the wife .. he was coming back to rape her.

<CometBaby> it was funny how she described it to me .. she said she opened the door .. pointed and said "go dog". He wouldn't have gone w/o the command.

<Emil^> dogs who are loved are naturally protective - even if not trained
<Emil^> well - pending the breed
<CometBaby> this was a pit bull .. one of the very worst kind of dogs you want coming after you.
<Emil^> i love syberian huskey's but they **** *** - they love every single person and are the worst of guard dogs
<CometBaby> once they bite you they do not let go
<Lotec> Once when I was walking my dog on a leash, another dog tried to bite me. My dog broke its back
<CometBaby> they shake their heads back and forth to get a deeper bite
<trompe> did he actually say that he was there to rape the wife, or did the dog give him a polygraph as well?
<CometBaby> trompe .. apparently there had been a series of rapes. They did tests on him and he was the one who had been doing them.

<CometBaby> my cousin had a helluva time getting the dog to turn loose of him. When the dog did .. he just told the guy that the police were coming and if he tried to run he would turn the dog on him again.

<Emil^> i'm in the process of moving my dad cuz of crime where i live.....i hate this ****

<Emil^> a couple weeks back 3 people in ski masks (1 with a gun) broke into a 77 year old lady house who lives across the street and robbed her

<Emil^> i wonder if my dad's house would have been the target if we didn't have the collie

<Emil^> no leads yet...its been over two weeks and these fvckers are walking free
<Emil^> hence - back to a potlical issue - i strongly support the right to bear arms!

<Emil^> i think it's crap to attempt to 'ban' pitpulls or rotweillers

<CometBaby> I was raised with a pit bull. It was our family pet. Her name was Beauty, she was brindle and gorgeous. And gentle as a lamb.

<Emil^> you can tortune dogs ~ starving them to death, kick them, beat them...and you get a slap on the wrist

<CometBaby> after she died .. dad brought home a german shepherd some hippy had given him. I named her Sheba and she was a great dog but too protective.

<CometBaby> one day dad was swinging me in the backyard .. we were playing airplane .. where he took one arm and one leg and swung me around in a circle.
<CometBaby> I was screaming and laughing and sheba thought he was hurting me and attacked him.
<Emil^> that is an example where if the dog was raised properlly that never would have happened - but sounds like you saved that dog from a pound or shelter or something

<CometBaby> yeah .. some hippy came up to the door and asked him if his dog could have some water. He said sure. Then the hippy asked him if he would take the dog to a pond because he couldn't keep it. The dog was obviously starving.
<Emil^> raising an abused/neglected dog is well - not only difficult, but for most not possible
<CometBaby> dad said he would do that and brought it home. He was gonna take it the next day but I begged to keep it. So he said that if a vet said the dog was okay we would.

<CometBaby> dad made me put mineral oil on her dog food to help her get a healthy new coat of hair.
