<pilgrim`> uns
<pilgrim`> was Father in Law's he died. I drove it here loaded with tools and guns
<FreeTrade> A fee simple estate is yours and you can devise it.
<Lupine> pil: man, driving a storm cross country couldnt' had been enjoyable.. but the guns makes it worth while :-)
<FreeTrade> a life estate means you own it until you die and then it reverts to whomever is named.
<FreeTrade> Or there estate
<FreeTrade> since you may live 80 years after you buy.
<OcDoc> lifetime tenancy
<FreeTrade> Like I said it gets complicated.
<FreeTrade> Tenancy in reversion based on the death of Johns cat...
<pqdb> =)
<FreeTrade> So you own it until johns cat dies, then it reverts back to whoever is names.
<FreeTrade> named
<FreeTrade> This way you will take good care of Johns cat. And buy a rePet when it dies to try to hide it
<FreeTrade> ;)
<FreeTrade> You guys see the movie, the 7th day law ?
<FreeTrade> Arnold starred in it.
<OcDoc> no
<Lupine> Yep.. been a while thou
<OcDoc> Ahnold?
<FreeTrade> Which reminds me I have to vote yes on all or most of his ballot measures.
<Lupine> know the general gist of it
<FreeTrade> Raise school tenure requirements from 2 to 5 years (Very reasonable)
<Lupine> BTW: if arnold runs for re-eleciton, will his tag line be "I'll be back"?
<pqdb> I thank the heavens every day I don't awaken in California
<OcDoc> should I vote to repeal the nine cent per gallon tax increase even though they have threatened to cancel road projects if it p***es?
<FreeTrade> Have retired judged create districts rather than politcal parties, Also very wise.
<FreeTrade> OcDoc, which road projects ?
<FreeTrade> Are they important ?
<OcDoc> FreeTrade: all of them
<Lupine> foxnews: Isrealis fighters launch missiles on a suspected militant vehicle in the gaza
<OcDoc> FreeTrade: basically the state won't do any highway projects with the billions of dollars they already have
<FreeTrade> Well then its a judgement call, take solace in knowing in california we pay more than 9 cents a gallon ;)
<pqdb> whoops
<OcDoc> they're holding the taxpayers hostage
<pqdb> JIHAD!.
<pqdb> zzz
<FreeTrade> Lately though gas has been dropping to almost $2.50 a gal
<Lupine> OcDoc: all the more reasons to vote to recind the tax
<West`> that depends i suppose, who are these judges, I am not sure they should suddenly become lawmakers. Might end up with 3 bad judges or partisn judges.
<FreeTrade> how about where the rest of you live ?
<OcDoc> FreeTrade: no, it's a nine cent per gallon INCREASE
<pqdb> it's about $2.40 here in upstate SC
<pqdb> which is sad, ppl think iut's cheap
<TheTailor> $2.34 here
<Lupine> $3.09 south florida [before wilma ]
<pqdb> will ppl think $1.80 is creap? I hope not.
<West`> especially here in ca, im suprised anyone would want the judges to decide, heh
<OcDoc> I paid $2.84 per gallon for Shell recently
<West`> 2.77 socal at mobil for regular
<pqdb> I havent' actually "filled up" in 2 months
<pqdb> 3 cars... so $10 here, $12 there
<pqdb> I only paid $3 for a total of 20 gallons
<FreeTrade> OcDoc, Increase ?
<FreeTrade> tell them to bite it
<OcDoc> Free: yup
<FreeTrade> they could get the money eslewhere if they had the will
<FreeTrade> cut other programs.
<OcDoc> I guess I'll vote against it on principle
<FreeTrade> Washington is a welfare state. and the Republican actually won the governorship by the rules..
<pqdb> Califonrnia has a history of screwing the taxpayer at every opprotunity
<Lupine> always vote against tax increases on principle
<OcDoc> the voters need to hand the dictators a few defeats occasionally
<FreeTrade> Judges of course settle elections in the USA these days.
<FreeTrade> Just like in both elections Bush won by the rules, but he won one because of the judges, Florida judges meddling.
<OcDoc> first they make the highways a state monopoly, then they threaten to let the roads fall apart if we don't let them increase taxes
<Lupine> well.. he'ld have one that if the judges didn't meddle
<OcDoc> I'm fed up with it
<FreeTrade> The florida judges tried to give it to the democrats and then the Supreme Court said no to the Florida judge, this is illegal
<FreeTrade> unconstitutional.
<OcDoc> okay ... LET the damn roads fall apart ... maybe the voters will finally wake up
<FreeTrade> OcDoc, Yep, Sometimes thats what it takes.
<pqdb> most voters proabbly dont' even know what they're voting for
<West`> then they will just p*** a 18c tax.
<OcDoc> what the freaking hell are they doing with the billions of dollars per year they already have?!
<FreeTrade> California was the first to introduce property tax limitations I believe.
<FreeTrade> California is one of the first to require a 2/3 majority to p*** a special tax.
<West`> yeah and ive watched that rule decimate our local police and fire depts
<OcDoc> heh ... does the autoban apply to abusive nicks?
<pqdb> it sounds liek California has become a grinding machine of hypercorruption and stupidity
<West`> to the point we had to drop our fire dept and contract with the county
<FreeTrade> ocdoc some
<West`> pd is next..
<FreeTrade> Oh I didnt see him.
<pqdb> West`: the 2/3 rule?
<suna> ***uming that the average person in california is actually politically education is stupidity
<suna> however, i agree with the california comment for different reasons
<suna> :P
<suna> educated, bah
<West`> yea, the people in this city are too stupid to vote for the tax increase, even though the city has been falling apart for decades.
<suna> i wanted to change how i described that about 12 times, so typos resulted;/
<pqdb> I see.
<West`> it made it above 50 a few times. but never 66+%
<pqdb> that fits into a few conspiracy theories nicely
<suna> california is just full of a bunch of actors, fake democrats and fake republicans, a bunch of ****ing liars trying to impress their parents. Take them away, it is no more politically active than any other state
<OcDoc> the argument that they need a tax increase because there are more people is spurious
<FreeTrade> What they do with taxation to screw you (They = the govt, local or otherwise) is they waste tons of money but cut critical services to punish you.
<pqdb> because this "no new tax" mantra is a leftover from the 80's and 90's
<DeDannan> West`, where is this?
<pilgrim`> no gvernment is any more corrupt then any other
<West`> Pomona, California
<pqdb> so voters just remember "NO NEW TAXES" no matter what the issue is
<FreeTrade> Instead of giving them more money Give them hell
<pqdb> meanwhile their guys are forcing thru higher spending
<FreeTrade> They all have money for police and fire.
<FreeTrade> thats just the way to con you into paying more taxes for parks and recreation and a dozen other reasons.
<West`> the mainly hispanic city council ran the businesses out of town. We dont really have the money anymore.
<FreeTrade> OcDoc, That nick is now banned, I had not seen it before or I would of banned it
<West`> FreeTrade that depends entirely on the area.
<suna> the only thing i really have against california, the only thing that would really want me to move if i have children, is the legal system....other than that i really love this place
<OcDoc> Free: they threaten to reduce those services that voters all agree on but don't touch the ones that we'd all go " why is govenrment doing THAT with our money" oln
<FreeTrade> West, its almost a universal truth "Almost"
<OcDoc> Free: just curious
<pilgrim`> new taxes? why? If I have any say ever on taxes I always say No. and the day after the voter says no, suddently the municipality finds a "extra emergency funding source" that just happens to be there just in case that will cover whatever it was they wanted to tax us for, or they decide that Mayor really DOESN'T need to attend that converence on the Kona Coast
<FreeTrade> Ask yourself how much money your county takes in in property taxes a year in fact better yet.. Ask them.
<pqdb> I haven't been to California is 21 y ears. but it sounds to me like it's been hijacked on a few fronts
<pqdb> is there anythign in Cali which ISN'T fubar?
<FreeTrade> OcDoc, yes its always been that way.
<suna> what part of califronia did you go to pqdb?
<suna> it's a different country every 50 miles
<suna> you can't generalize the state
<pqdb> family at Long Beach
<pqdb> well then droev to SD
<FreeTrade> They threaten to take away essential services to induce fear, and then they wont cut the programs or their OWN SALARIES where the real fraud is.
<pqdb> I'm not generalizing anything. but it seemed like any other town in the 80's
<pilgrim`> taxation is NEVER EVER EVER!!! levied for the benifit of the taxed
<pilgrim`> ever
<suna> the only thing northern cal & southern cal have in common are 1. we both have to deal with arnold, 2. the ****ed up UC / CSU systems
<suna> :P
<OcDoc> okay ... you've convinced me
<pqdb> it's difficult to envision how a state govt can become a hunking behemoth of failure
<FreeTrade> Arnold is great, he is doing what is pure justice.
<FreeTrade> Requiring teachers to teavch 5 years before tenure is granted
<SweetLeaf> Its the Weather man its the weather man
<pqdb> even compared to FLorida, California seems deviant
<FreeTrade> its 2 now
<Lupine> pq: I expect it to become a failure, it requires m***ive amount of effort by the citizens so it wont be a failure
<pilgrim`> Free golly! what a idea!
<suna> i don't knwo what davis did or didn't do, i wasn't paying attention at all during that whole thing
<West`> a few of the props I agree with. the tenure thing is ok..
<suna> however i do remember clearly thinking
<FreeTrade> Requiring unions to have the PERMISSION OF THEIR MEMBERS to Spend union money on politics.
<OcDoc> whatever happens in California will happen everywhere else within ten years
<pilgrim`> suna that is the problem
<FreeTrade> thats totally common sense
<suna> 'wtf he was just elected governor like 3 days ago, how could you change your minds that much that fast? did he kill your children? wtf?'
<West`> Ive worked for longer then 2 years, I dont have any lifetime job heh.
<FreeTrade> and taking redistricting completely out of the hands of the legislature.
<suna> pligrim: no it's not, some people have lives outside of politics
