<CryArvach> JanetB...with an 18 year gap....like hell she is
<DStewart> If a state were to try to limit ANOTHER state's abortion practices, it would be instantly null.
<jhicks> bmc: I had a bad cold
<JanetB> bloc.. that does not mean I was quite for her
<JanetB> she was more than qualified
<CryArvach> qualified to do what...Repeal the Constitution?
<Disbelief> DStewart - haha. hey if you'd like to jump into the discussion, just say so. we don't need your verbal diarrhea.
<bmc> oh, well im a lazy bastard then :)
<CryArvach> Disbelief.......
<Bloc> you were supporting her cause it was bush's nominee
<JanetB> and I also said, I would wait to p*** judgment... when the hearings were heard
<Disbelief> DStewart - i didn't say anything like that.
<P_O> DStewart, I already covered that.
<Bloc> rather than seeing if she was qualified
<TomM--> verbal diarrhea???? LOL.....
<jhicks> bmc: Did you know you can get really whacked out if you down two bottles of NyQuil?
<DStewart> If a state were to propose that it is illegal for a citizen of one state to get an abortion in another state, that too would be instantly nullified---without affecting at all in-state illegality.
<JanetB> and statment was to someone saying she was not qualified cause she was not a judge
<Bloc> anyways
<Bloc> no biggy
<bmc> its like 30% alcohol
<P_O> DStewart, you're repeating what I said a few lines back.
<JanetB> under the constitution she was more than qualified
<CryArvach> jhicks..home experiment?
<DStewart> It would not make it a federal issue again. It would lead to ONE state law being overturned.
<Bloc> need to move on to the next judge
<jhicks> CryArvach: I was suffering!
<CryArvach> jhicks is dosing his livestock!!!!
<P_O> JanetB, does the constitution lay any requirement to being on the SC besides being put there?
<Bloc> under the constitution any of us can be scotus
<surlly> [20:42] <DStewart> You know, surly is usually right. I think Ill be quite from now on
<Disbelief> DStewart - and what if a state succeeds in declaring a fetus a living person or resident of that state?
<Nemes> lol i just got a spam titled, "End of Year winners Congratulations" sent from uklottery_claimsdepartment@indiatimes.com [a uk lottery org that has email address at @indiatimes.com ? lmoa hehe you think its for real?
<Nemes> hehe
<CryArvach> jhicks..I was on Nyquil all last week
<jhicks> CryArvach: but my sheep LOVE GHB
<JanetB> P_O.. nope.. hench she was more than qualified :)
<DStewart> Disbelief, what if?
<P_O> JanetB, just like I am.
<P_O> P_O for SCOTUS!
<CryArvach> Nemes...reply back...ask how you collect your money...
<Nemes> heh
<jhicks> CryArvach: This was a pretty damn nasty cold
<JanetB> P_O.. maybe.. we would have to hear you in the hearings
<DStewart> Disbelief, if you are a resident of Michigan, and I kill you in Ohio, it's Ohio that has jurisdiction.
<CryArvach> say you want it in Gold overeigns
<Disbelief> DStewart - i think there are a number of hypothetical mechanisms by which anti-abortion states would seek to curtail cross-state abortion runs.
<MadScribe> I don't believe Nyquil really works in the "curing your cold" sense, more so in the "knocks your *** out so you can rest" sense
<DStewart> And Michigan can't claim jurisdiction. Michigan can't extradite you.
<TomM--> Cry...I was on that stuff for a week. That stuff will make you sleep!
<P_O> JanetB, I'd like to propose that meeting the requirements doesn't always make you qualified.
<Bloc> there should be votes in this chat room
<jhicks> MadScribe: I was just too sick to go out for Maker's Mark
<CryArvach> TomM-- it was all that would allow me to sleep
<P_O> MadScribe, just as good.
<bmc> might as well just buy a pint of liquor
<DStewart> Disbelief, maybe there are (I doubt it), but what YOU named certainly isn't one.
<Bloc> to keep tabs on what position everyone has
<MadScribe> jhicks: they do taste very similiar
<CryArvach> wb stopsign!!
<CryArvach> any roiting in Chicago yet?
<jhicks> hrm, speaking of Maker's.... Where the hell is KyGOP?
<JanetB> P_O.. she ran a 400 person law firm, and is the council to the president, I think she would know a bit about the law and the constitution :D
<surlly> Whats going on in Chigago?
<P_O> I know a bit about the constitution :P
<bmc> she has no constitutional experience
<Disbelief> JanetB - who are you blaming for Miers' withdrawel ?
<DStewart> Janet, running a law firm doesn't confer constitutional experience.
<CryArvach> JanetB... 18 year gap in employment history.... **BUZZER!!**
<CryArvach> Miers is manchurian candidate
<jhicks> Everybody knows the real reason Miers withdrew...
<Bloc> JanetB, she also called bush, "The best governor ever" I think that lacked a little judgement
<DStewart> Even being counsel to the president doesn't confer it. THe president actually has a whole department of lawyers to handle constitutional cases, Janet.
<JanetB> DS.. I did not imply that is did
<jhicks> She used to be a stripper
<CryArvach> jhicks' took some unflattering miers pics
<JanetB> but her being council to the president does
<DStewart> Janet, wasn't your statement an EXPLICIT claim that it does?
<jhicks> hehehe
<JanetB> DS.. no
<surlly> the president's admin is going to need a whole department of lawers
<DStewart> "she ran a 400 person law firm, and is the council to the president, I think she would know a bit about the law and the constitution" What does that mean, then?
<DStewart> That she had it going into those positions?
<jhicks> DStewart: not much
<JanetB> her being council to the president is a statment that she does
<DStewart> That too wouldn't follow.
<DStewart> Janet, it just isn't.
<Bloc> seriously roberts was an excellent pick
<Bloc> just pick someone as good please
<CryArvach> we shall see...
<surlly> The next interview question Rove is going to face is "You want to be the husband or the wife?"
<CryArvach> Gonzalez...
<jhicks> yeah, i like roberts (i think)
<jhicks> Gonzalez doesn't respect the constitution
<_3Josephs> Ted Olson is my guess
<P_O> I'll see how well I like Roberts after a few cases.
<CryArvach> jhicks...I am not sure yet...lets see how he rules
<Bloc> don't set a benchmark and find someone way way crappier - it's like affirmative action/ cronyism and insulting to women
<Disbelief> DStewart - it would be almost entirely pointless for most states to simply legislate that abortion within their territory is criminal, when mobility ensures that a person could still get the abortion, so i think the more zealous states will seek other measures to compell their residents against going across state lines for abortions.
<DarthBurg> Rove has all ready been convicted?
<JanetB> [17:40] <JanetB> P_O.. she ran a 400 person law firm, and is the council to the president, I think she would know a bit about the law and the constitution :D... let us break down the statment.. he ran a law firm.. hence she knows law, 2 council to the predident, she knows the constitution
<P_O> Being confirmed and nominated is all good
<CryArvach> P_O is an anomaly....
<jhicks> CryArvach: yeah, i'm watching too
<TomM--> Once the jackals on the right started on her she didnt have a chance. Had the Libs done it would have been written off as politics and Bush hating. His own base stabbed him in the back. Ill bet George is one pissed off President, and he should be.
<P_O> but it means nothing if the opinions/performance in court is crap.
<P_O> CryArvach, thank you.
<CryArvach> <P_O> I'll see how well I like Roberts after a few cases. << some adults do not think that way
<DStewart> Disbelief, wow, would it be? And yet states did it, before Roe v Wade. You know, a counterexample like that just blows your whole claim right out.
<jhicks> Some people are just flat partisans
<Bloc> CryArvach, he actively enagages the participants which is an important trait in a judge
<jhicks> Like JanetB over there
<DarthBurg> TomM-- thinks republicans follow scumbags blindly like Democrats do.
<P_O> CryArvach, well, this is one of the few important positions in the US where there is no re-election
<_3Josephs> the bad part is the delay means O'Connor will actually help decide cases this term
<CryArvach> Roberts had a minimal paper trail....
<Bloc> i'm a liberal but i can see smrts...roberts is smrt
<JanetB> ?
<P_O> There is very little you can do to pin a SC Justice.
<CryArvach> now Bushes fed reserve candidate....
<Bloc> s m r t
<JanetB> like me what
<Disbelief> P_O - you know what's funny about this Miers withdrawel business....now O'Conner is going to remain a sitting judge during 3 abortion cases due to come up in the next few months.
<jhicks> JanetB: j/k :)
<CryArvach> he is decent
<P_O> Disbelief, lol
<TomM--> Darth...hit a little close to home did it? LOL
<JanetB> jhicks.. no clue what you are refering to
<jhicks> good
<jhicks> hehe
<Disbelief> so the religious right just lost those in their craze to get a fundamentalist on the bench.
<Disbelief> ironic.
<JanetB> I love the left spin
<JanetB> hahaha
<Bloc> JanetB, me too:)
<Bloc> cause i'm a liberal though
<JanetB> it is so funny to watch
<jhicks> Is left spin counterclockwise?
<Disbelief> JanetB - who are you blaming for Miers' demise ?
<DarthBurg> TomM-- no, just another cl***ic case of projection. or were you not paying attention? Bush's Base got pissed, he backed off. that is exactly the Opposite of what Democrats do. which of course was my point, and naturally, it went right by you
<P_O> jhicks, NO LEFTISTS DON'T GET CLOCKS
<jhicks> P_O: What about in the southern hemisphere?
<CryArvach> JanetB.. I detest left and right spin
<Bloc> seriously i find republicans blaming democrats for anything when they have the house, senate, pres...just funny:)
<Bloc> any lack of progress is their fault...
<surlly> Anyone see the story about Ford going to monitor its employees bathroom time?
<Bloc> they have the votes to do whats right
