<CometBaby> he was repulsive <Timur> ah, well, so much for the virtues of honest accountancy <strider_> heh <Timur> did he come from an accounting background? <rond> MCI had quite a few accounting problems as well <Jokester> Can someone explain to me this whole ROVE AND LIBBY THING!! <Timur> [Ebbers] dropped out of several colleges due to poor marks, and finally graduated with a degree in physical education. <CometBaby> Timur .. well, we have our own company, my husband and I. We established an LLP and we invest in properties. <Espectro> my bro testified at the wtf i dunno citigroup trial <Timur> CB: so do you use your accountancy in that capacity? <CometBaby> long term investments .. looking at funding an all out retirement. <CometBaby> timur yes <Timur> ok <Espectro> when they got messed up <rond> didn't MCI get called on the carpet by the feds at one time because of there accounting problems <BoogyMan> Rond - ROFL <Timur> my grandmother does too, and she has a brilliant mind at age 90, and never got to go to college.. she's been playing the market for like 30 years <CometBaby> rond .. WorldCom MCI was run by Bernie Ebbers who was one of the most corrupt corporate officials in America. <rond> I am thinking this was before ebbers <Timur> CB, you sound positively socialist today..what happened? ;) <CometBaby> he acquired MCI when he bought out the company I was working for. <eurolite> I'v got one question? Why do companys alawys try to write **** all smart? its anoying <Timur> I thought the private sector was the be-all and end-all <Espectro> to make you jump through hoops <CometBaby> timur .. I don't have to work in the private sector anymore or I would be. <CometBaby> I am self employed now <CometBaby> but... <CometBaby> If I ever had to go back to work .. I would never have any trouble doing so. <Timur> CB: I know. But I'm speaking to a philosophical take on the virtues of unregulated private enterprise <eurolite> CometBaby u have anything to do with lomag? <CometBaby> no <eurolite> k <eurolite> cuz i had a box there and didint pay for like 4 months and they never shut it down <eurolite> ;d <rond> I am almost positive MCI had all sorts of billing problems long before ebbers was ever involved <CometBaby> eurolite I have nothing to do with the telecommunications industry anymore. <Timur> so, you sold your stock and got paid and reinvested it, partially due to good timing in the 1990s market boom. But can accountants today expect that? <rond> I remember us being tied into those problems in the late 80's <CometBaby> Timur .. there are no guarantees in life. But if I went back to work in the corporate industry I would be getting stock options. After a certain number of years you become vested .. or if the company is bought out you immediately become vested. There is still money to be made. <Timur> sure there is <CometBaby> Let me tell you this much. I would do a helluva lot better there then I would in any comfortable, guaranteed job like civil service, or teaching. <Timur> well, that's why different people measure success differently. For example, my father is still a tenured professor, and is doing very well, and supplements his income with consulting <Timur> my mother did well in law, just retired <Timur> and had an independent practice. <CometBaby> If for example, I were to divorce and need to go back to work .. with my experience in a startup company .. I could go to any startup and hit the ground running. Been there, done that. <CometBaby> I would probably have to move .. but that would be feasable under those circumstances. <CometBaby> but ... <Timur> so, the corporate life is good for some, but not for all, and isn't the only means to success, even on a financial basis - ***uming that;s the only measure <CometBaby> I have no intention of ever divorcing. I adore my husband. <Timur> does he irc? <Espectro> ha <Timur> just wondering <Timur> my gf soemtiems instant-messages me <CometBaby> timur .. working in a guaranteed, comfortable job .. only means you are never going to make any less . . but you are never going to make a whole lot more either. So if that's what people want, so be it. It's not what I want. <Espectro> Timur is trying to get in her pants <CometBaby> timur .. no he doesn't. No interest whatsoever. <strider_> irc is the devil <Timur> CB: no, not really <Timur> my aunt is the chair of the dept of ed at a college <Timur> she's making more money because she both has climbed the ladder and also does a lot of publishing of her work and consulting <CometBaby> so she isn't doing it solely with a guaranteed, comfortable job? I rest my case. <Timur> right, but she does enjoy her work <CometBaby> I enjoy mine too :) <Timur> most people in academia do other things <Timur> well, there you go <Timur> some people enjoy real estate, some accounting, some teaching <Timur> it's not for a prof to judge someone who enjoys accounting, nor vice-versa <Timur> both have their roles and both are necessary. <CometBaby> Well when I was climbing the ladder of success for 3 years there .. I worked sometimes 12-14 hours a day. Other times I would leave at noon. But dedication is the key word here .. and you have to be available and nobody should have to tell you that. <CometBaby> you do what you have to do and you don't expect a whole lot of direction. You figure it out as you go. <CometBaby> you need to be a self-starter because nobody has time to teach you .. they are all learning too. <CometBaby> and you don't sit around waiting to be thanked for that dedication. <Mr_Wizard> My cat said he's packing his things and leaving. <CometBaby> wizard .. lol <JanetB> what did you do to the poor cat! <Mr_Wizard> Too bad for him, he owns nothing. <Mr_Wizard> I feel so much like a parent! <CometBaby> I have a great short little movie for you .. can you accept a dcc? Or do you want to accept a dcc? <Mr_Wizard> I fed him <CometBaby> its a total hoot <Mr_Wizard> me? or? <JanetB> well then buy you cat better food! <CometBaby> mrwiz yeah you <JanetB> poor cat <Mr_Wizard> i can try <JanetB> your <CometBaby> sending <Mr_Wizard> damn <JanetB> I want a movie <Mr_Wizard> brb <CometBaby> okay janet <Mr_Wizard> got a ph call <JanetB> hehehe <CometBaby> sending <inert> maybe i get the wheel back today <inert> whoops <CometBaby> janet you getting it? <JanetB> no <JanetB> :( <CometBaby> hmm <JanetB> and I got a dcc last night <Mr_Wizard> I can't get it...I have to do something in my options. <CometBaby> give me an email addy in pm and I will mail it to you <Mr_Wizard> But i can send a pic of him. <CometBaby> I cannot receive dcc <Mr_Wizard> ok <Mr_Wizard> what are you guys going as for Halloween? <JanetB> I will be handing out candy <CometBaby> MrWiz if you send me an email addy in pm I can mail it to you <JanetB> and I got BODY parts candy <CometBaby> you will love it if you have a cat <Espectro> a uga football player? <Espectro> since i'm a fan <JanetB> we have fingers, and eyes, and mouths and ears <JanetB> hehe <Espectro> GT <Mr_Wizard> did u get it? <MrRod> CometBaby: I have a cat. Scares the crap out of the neighbors. You should see the horrified looks! See, you don't have to decorate. There are other ways. <Espectro> i can't post the GT fight song here <JanetB> no. I dress up here and hand out candy heheh <Espectro> it's like 12 lines <JanetB> hahaha MrRod <JanetB> I don't think hubby would let me stand naked in the yard <Mr_Wizard> I am planning to not be home for Halloween so I don't have to open doors for little kids :) <CometBaby> sent <CometBaby> janet check your email <MrRod> CometBaby: Me too? <JanetB> thanks CometBaby <CometBaby> yes <CometBaby> MR yes <CometBaby> the addy you gave me last night <CometBaby> MrWiz it is sent .. check your email <MrRod> CometBaby: Good thing I'm not on dial up. <Mr_Wizard> Ok. thanks <Espectro> i'm a rambling wreck for <MrRod> CometBaby: Hmm.
