I set a p***word too. I just tried connecting to it via IP address from a remote computer on another network at my school but I get the following error message: "The client could not connect to the remote computer. " Any idea why this didnt work? Do I need to do anything else to my server computer running remote desktop?? I dont have a firewall running, and my computer <^-Lord-^> yes <^-Lord-^> you setup the rd connection, but you didn't forward the port in your router <bofh`> or your isp blocks port 3389 <dmk__> I dont have a router <dmk__> hehe <^-Lord-^> ok what's the IP you're trying to connect to? <dmk__> can someone scan my IP if I give it to them in private and see if port 3389 is open? <^-Lord-^> send it here <KSecDD> dmk__: and is it open when you do a NETSTAT on the machine itself? <dmk__> 69.162.56.145 <^-Lord-^> omg <anyweb> its connected <bofh`> heh <dmk__> Im not on the machine now <^-Lord-^> I now own a new computer <anyweb> via telnet <dmk__> haha <^-Lord-^> dude <^-Lord-^> FYI: NEVER declare a computer is not behind a firewall and then give the address to it in public <anyweb> whats the administrator p***word <dmk__> sorry <anyweb> i'll login and secure it for you <KSecDD> unless its a project honeypot <anyweb> seeing as i'm at the login screen <bofh`> his isp must be wondering what the hell just happened to spawn all that incoming traffic oto the ip. :) <dmk__> lol <anyweb> dmk__, you are stupid <dmk__> maybe I just cant connect <anyweb> never put a computer on the internet without a firewall <dmk__> from this school computer <anyweb> never never ever <dmk__> ok <anyweb> bad dog <dmk__> I disabled the firewall to test this <anyweb> also, change the tcp port from 3389 to something else <^-Lord-^> wait <anyweb> like 54321 <dmk__> I'll go home and unplug it and quit the internet <^-Lord-^> he's at school guys <anyweb> too late it's already own3d <^-Lord-^> dmk__ you ARE stupid <anyweb> no need to unplug it <anyweb> just format reinstall <^-Lord-^> your school is blocking you <dmk__> how do I change the port? <^-Lord-^> chances are they are blocking not just the port, but the protocol too <dmk__> does the school just block the port? <dmk__> oh ok <^-Lord-^> I'm wondering how the **** you're on the IRC <bofh`> HAHAHAHHAHAHA 27374/tcp filtered subseven <bofh`> 4000/tcp open remoteanything <anyweb> told ya <dmk__> thats my computer?> <anyweb> too late it's already own3d <---- <^-Lord-^> thanks for giving us your computer <dmk__> lol <anyweb> anyone who is stupid enough to put a unsecured computer up on the internet with no firewall is dumb <dmk__> dont hack me! <bofh`> oops, second one was supposed to be upnp, not remote anything <^-Lord-^> anyweb: go ahead and setup the spam server <anyweb> now when you get home, disconnect the pc from the internet completly <bofh`> oooo, netbios is filtered though, not opejned. that'll keep him secure. :) <anyweb> and turn off the computer <anyweb> go buy a book on computer security and read it <bofh`> then set it on fire <anyweb> when you have finished reading it, install linux <bofh`> and go buy a router and a new computer <anyweb> when you understand linux (in about 3 years) then you can reinstall xp <^-Lord-^> or at least enable the windows firewall <anyweb> and chances are you might make it secure. <bofh`> no point in windows firewall now, taht windows install is a lost cuase <^-Lord-^> lol <yayo> wtf is my wireless switch? <^-Lord-^> oh goodie... another newb <yayo> oh the router <yayo> dont **** around <yayo> im at school right now <Azs> figures. <Azs> lets guess com puter sciences/security <Spizzo18> was wondering if i could ask if you guys know of any programs that help you sync files on a laptop to a server computer automatically? <yayo> no im taking operations management <yayo> If the Authentication tab is missing in the Wireless Connection properties, make sure that the Wireless Zero Configuration service is running. <yayo> the service is running but there is no tab <^-Lord-^> sounds like it's not set to allow windows to handle the wireless connections <yayo> what else could do it? <^-Lord-^> who are you <yayo> what <yayo> im rick james <bofh`> the intel(or whate er) wireless software probably has control of wireless config, rather than the windows software <anyweb> especially if you want to use 802.xx authentication <bofh`> I really should do something productive here. :) <^-Lord-^> I am so tired of being productive <^-Lord-^> and I have 6 more laptops to prepare <^-Lord-^> sigh <bofh`> hweh <^-Lord-^> good thing I have images for them <^-Lord-^> makes it easy <Spizzo18> lord: do you have a procedure when imagin PCs? <^-Lord-^> yes, why <Spizzo18> hmm <Spizzo18> can you send it to me ? ? <^-Lord-^> the procedure?? <Spizzo18> yeah <^-Lord-^> install everything you want, then boot to bartpe, and ghost am image over the network to a server and store it. then burn to DVD and archive <Spizzo18> bartpe? <^-Lord-^> ?? bartpe <CyberGeek> bartpe == A Pre-installation builder program - http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ <^-Lord-^> it's like knoppix <Spizzo18> do you record everythign sdteop by step? <^-Lord-^> what do you mean record? <compdoc> bartpe isnt being updated anymore :( <Spizzo18> whats that program that builds the barebones install of windows xp only <^-Lord-^> it doesn't need to be <^-Lord-^> it's complete <^-Lord-^> that's nlite <^-Lord-^> let's you strip what you want out of it <compdoc> I use nlite to slipstream windows, but it doesnt always turn out well to strip programs from windows with it <Spizzo18> im looking for a way to install barebones windows and make it secure as possible <compdoc> if you want it secure, dont conenct it to the internet
