OR if you had talent, you would know how to create an image . again FOR the systems your "corporate" environment use <Spizzo18> well id thought id go through all alternatives <Spizzo18> there might be some recommended reg settins to enter <Azs> go talk to your "corp" admin <Azs> he needs a good laugh <square> Azs: where about in az you from <square> ? <lukeyb> i got this issue with windows xp, it does the loading startup screen - when it goes to bring up the welcome screen it resets the pc <KSecDD> lukeyb: sounds like its BSODing <anyweb> try it in safe mode <Azs> and ask yourself WHAT did you last install <lukeyb> well we did a fresh install <lukeyb> probelm stayed <lukeyb> safe mode same thing <lukeyb> whats BSODing ? <anyweb> blue screen <anyweb> if you formatted and reinstalled and its doing the same then you may have bad ram <lukeyb> hmm... i wonder what would cause it <anyweb> or bad video card <Azs> oh no a real NOOB <lukeyb> bad ram <anyweb> or bad anything <lukeyb> tried two vid cards <lukeyb> problem remained <lukeyb> we got 2gb of ram in this 4 sticks gonna use only one <Azs> and so you stopped <Azs> so try the ram <lukeyb> am now <Azs> take ONE out, <Azs> if it fails try the second stick etc <lukeyb> k <KSecDD> lukeyb: it completes setup fine but always BSODs after the first reboot? or did you get a chance to install stuff before it started BSODing on boot? <bofh`> love when people say "clean install" meaning install, drivers, all their apps, etc <Azs> you have 2gbs of ram , CAN the system take it ? <KSecDD> bofh`: yeah :) <lukeyb> reinstall was fine <lukeyb> first reboot it died <bofh`> Azs, was hoping you'd be one of ones dealing with power outage so we'd get some peace and quiet. ;) <Azs> and HOW long has this 'ram' been installed? before it started ****ing up <KSecDD> lukeyb: did you reformat when you reinstalled, or did you just install it over the top of an already dying OS? <Azs> GENERATOR baby and my laptop <bofh`> heh <Azs> you got 24 hours THATS enough <lukeyb> ram installed for over a year <lukeyb> just started <KSecDD> lukeyb: cos if you reformatted properly and then it starts BSODing the same way even without you installing any apps or other drivers, its almost certainly pooched hardware <lukeyb> we rformatted <lukeyb> thought so <Azs> again HOW long has the ram been installed <Azs> oh sorry <bofh`> bah! <lukeyb> k <lukeyb> tried all the rams <lukeyb> its not the ram not the video <lukeyb> mobo ? <KSecDD> it just started byt itself one day, just like that? <lukeyb> ya <compdoc> how old is the board and psu? <lukeyb> 6 mos <compdoc> ouch <bofh`> you tested the ram, with something like memtest86, or you jsut tried each one individually <bofh`> as swapping the ram is not the same as testing it <lukeyb> hmm <compdoc> you tried the ram one stick at a time? <bofh`> ?? memtest <CyberGeek> memtest == http://www.memtest86.com/ | http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp <-- this will find the faults other tests wont. <jediguy> when I have 2 Windows XP computers, and only one computer can see the other computer in the workgroup, and I can't copy files from one of the machines, but only from the other. <KSecDD> jediguy: turn off the firewall <^-Lord-^> shoulnd't have to <^-Lord-^> in the workgroup you should still see it <jediguy> KSecDD: I have turned off the firewall <KSecDD> screw 'seeing' in the browse list sense. If one of them has its FW up, the other one wont be able to establish SMB sessions with it. <jediguy> I have enabled guest accounts <bofh`> network neighborhood == gay useless crap <jediguy> ^-Lord-^: I have also enabled simple file sharing <bofh`> blech <^-Lord-^> disable simple file sharing <KSecDD> and use the same username and p***word on both machines. <bofh`> make the username on both test/test <bofh`> and make sure there's no firewall in between you and the internet <jediguy> there's no firewall <jediguy> it worked before, I reinstalled the OS. <KSecDD> jediguy: start | run | \\server\share <=== what do you get in response to that? <KSecDD> where 'server' is the name of the other machine, and 'share' is ... <Azs> imput YOUR infos for the \\server etc <Azs> lol <KSecDD> :) <CyberGeek> &:-) <jak2000> hi all <Silverpil> is there anyone that got time to help me made a script / *.bat file that could auto change my ip and submask in my lan property?? <Silverpil> make <jak2000> is SECURE build a vpn with windowsxp? <KSecDD> Silverpil: netsh interface ip set address ... <KSecDD> jak2000: I sure as hell hope so <jak2000> use only windows xp,, or a 3d party sw ? <Silverpil> KSecDD looking good! =)... a lot of thing to do here I see with that command netsh <Night> Silverpil, sorry, been trying to deal with this Thunderbird problem of my own. :) <Silverpil> =)... whats the wrong with the thunderbird (nice car)' <jak2000> then? <KSecDD> Silverpil: netsh is more of a framework than a single command, but its easily capable of doing what you want <Night> Silverpil, it's the mail client giving me problems. :) <pauliee> Hey i have 4 computers networked with router and dsl modem. I installed i.e. 7 on all computers windows legit. For some reason i'm not able to open "google.com" on all computers. Anyone know the reason for this? please any help would be appreciated. <KSecDD> jak2000: xp does pptp and l2tp natively. The former is fine for 99% of applications, the latter is even higher security, albeit at the cost of higher overhead <Silverpil> he he okej =)..... we could check it out later =) I comeback.. It would take me at least 1h before I will get thet netsh work nice if I should read everything about it =) <KSecDD> pauliee: lol, that sounds like the evil MS marketing dept getting to code some bits of IE7 themselves :) <jak2000> KSecDD, ok but by sample: OpenVpn generate a key of 128 bits, and ONLY the client that have it installed. can enter, windows does? <pauliee> so nothing major? Should be working soon? <KSecDD> jak2000: l2tp is a documented standard. Check it out if you're interested. 128-bit keys are pretty much de rigeur for that sort of thing nowadays. <bofh`> l2tp behind nat "doesn't work" <bofh`> meaning if you're smart and talented, you can make it work, but msot people in here, besides ops/+v, probably can't handle it <KSecDD> lol <bofh`> and if you don't have control of network on at least one side you can't make it work <bofh`> ms, cisco and others all jsut say it doesn't work. as with any normal setup, it won't <KSecDD> if you dont have control of your network, fire yourself <bofh`> being encapsulated, no direction by ip etc until it's been decrypted again <Ta1oN> l2tp/ipsec over nat does never work <bofh`> lots of people vpn into work, and ahve no control over network. or like here, I have vpn conneciton to a couple of dclients <Ta1oN> you need to specify a tunnel endpoint on the nat device, and then create a second tunnel from the nat device to it's target <bofh`> Ta1oN, keep same subnets and subnet mask on each side with no redundant IPs <Ta1oN> but you can't tunnel with l2tp over a nat device, technologically not possible <bofh`> use vpn endpoint capable routers, to do a full site to site vpn <Ta1oN> yeah, but that is still using an endpoint and creating a second tunnel <Ta1oN> even if it is done transparently <bofh`> did it before as a test. the issue is the fact full packet is encapsulated <Ta1oN> pptp works over nat though <bofh`> indeed, didn't say it wasn't, just said it was doable <bofh`> yeah <Ta1oN> without needing an endpoint <bofh`> that's why most people just use pptp
