<Hunterkll> okay
<jag111> If i don't use any 64-bit apps (but havea 64-bit cpu) should I get 64-bit XP or normal XP?
<bofh`> normal xp
<jag111> ok
<jag111> so xp itself doesnt work faster in 64= bit?
<gargan> jag111: it does, but the problem is drivers and software
<gargan> it has to be 64 bit all the way through for any advantage
<jag111> ohhh
<gargan> the cpus these days arent true 64 bit
<jag111> would i even necessiraly be able to find 64-bit xp drivers
<gargan> they're 32-bit with 64 bit extensions
<jag111> for all my components
<gargan> jag111: depends on your hardware
<jag111> oh really?
<gargan> it has to be for compatibility
<gargan> this is the transition stage
<gargan> lemme see if i can find you a good site
<Triple_ac> what does it mean when your program files has no label?
<Triple_ac> i cant get to it in dos
<gargan> jag111: there's a site dedicated just to that subject
<gargan> but i cant find it
<gargan> google for it
<gargan> you'll find it
<jag111> yeah
<jag111> well i have NO 64-bit software
<jag111> so i prolly wont bother
<gargan> if you have a major name brand, check with them
<gargan> yeah, it's not really worth the h***le right now
<Triple_ac> ?
<gargan> besides, gotta wait for sp2 for any version of windows to be good
<gargan|sm> hmm

<Trooper2> was wondering if someone could help me troubleshoot a win xp networking issue
<EJ> ?? ask
<Night> Just ask, Trooper2.
<Liss> hmm.
<Trooper2> just completed running sfc /scannow to restore PC DLLs as a precaution
<Night> Are you sure about NAT?
<Night> No other firewall software install?
<EJ> whats the error message?
<Night> They may not use NAT.
<Night> But if you have a router, you are.
<Trooper2> i've always used remote desktop from work, now I can't do it w/ port fwding configured correctly.
<Night> In other words, yes, you're using NAT.
<Trooper2> well, I'm struggling to find out why it won't return a ping
<Night> What model router do you have?
<Trooper2> linksys wrt54g
<EJ> i got that too
<EJ> i think
<Ta1oN> it doesn't matter for rdp if you can ping yourself or not
<Ta1oN> check other things first... do a netstat -an on your pc
<Ta1oN> look if port 3389 is really listening
<Trooper2> ok, what will that tell me
<Ta1oN> and if it does, check your router settings if port tcp 3389 is forwarded to your local pc ip
<Ta1oN> and yes, it does listen
<Ta1oN> Querying target system called:
<Ta1oN> 24.129.222.56
<Ta1oN> Attempting to resolve IP address to a name...
<Ta1oN> IP address resolved to c-24-129-222-56.hsd1.fl.comcast.net
<Ta1oN> TCP port 3389 (ms-wbt-server service): LISTENING
<Ta1oN> so everything is working as it should
<Ta1oN> i can even rdp into your machine
<Ta1oN> ?? msg for Trooper2
<CyberGeek> msg == Don't bother to MSG OPs (nick with @ in front), VOICEs (nick with +), or even MOST ppl in channel for PRIVATE one on one technical support/help. Please use the CHANNEL as a Q&A area, others have likely had similar problems. Also, don't MSG +o/+v for info on obtaining your own copy of Win2000/WinXP/Win2003/Vista unless you're interested in getting banned.
<Ta1oN> and there is nothing to fear
<Ta1oN> your ip is visible for everyone her
<Ta1oN> *here
<Ta1oN> if you really think your ip is private, you didn't get the basics of networking
<redhook> mine isnt
<Trooper2> :)
<CyberGeek> :D
<redhook> I'm nowhere near florida
<Ta1oN> you are connecting from 70.110.70.237 at least, so someone could still backtrace to you
<redhook> nope
<redhook> you should do a google for tor
<redhook> http://tor.eff.org/
<Ta1oN> i know what that is
<Ta1oN> and it protects you from most people here
<Ta1oN> but it won't protect you from government or similiar things
<redhook> Your traffic is safer when you use Tor, because communications are bounced around a distributed network of servers, called onion routers. Tor's technology aims to provide Internet users with protection against "traffic analysis," a form of network surveillance that threatens personal anonymity and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security.
<bofh`> ha
<Ta1oN> and proxy chaining is easy btw... no need for such a service to do that
<redhook> Ta1oN: tor also encrypts everything
<Ta1oN> still, everything is back-tracable, the point is, how much work does it mean, and is it worth it?
<redhook> and it doesnt use the same path for more then a second
<bofh`> he's hopping through 34 connecitons, changin g200 times a minute!!!
<Ta1oN> heh
<Ta1oN> you can calm down though, with this, the work to find you is too much for anyone to really try
<bofh`> someon'es been watching too many movies
<Ta1oN> just know that nothing is impossible
<Ta1oN> besides, where is the problem with someone knowing your ip?
<Ta1oN> you can have mine, just do a /whois
<Ta1oN> the only thing you'll reach, is a shared router, which isn't really my concern, and everything inside my lan, is secured enough so that i do not fear anyone having my ip
<Ta1oN> if you want to know more: all ports from 4000-5000 are forwarded to my local workstation
<redhook> Ta1oN: I like to hide my location
<Ta1oN> and the router/nat's ip is 62.40.151.99
<Ta1oN> as long as you do nothing illegal, there is no point in doing such things
<Ta1oN> the only thing you get, is a slower internet connection
<redhook> Ta1oN: has nothing to do with my activities
<Ta1oN> then why are you doing it?
<redhook> Ta1oN: maybe there's people on irc who I do not want to know what region I moved to?
<Ta1oN> [00:17] <+bofh`> someon'es been watching too many movies <- i guess cause of that? :>
<Ta1oN> if you changed your region, you have another hostmask/ip
