They logged in on their domain account, got a msg it said: profile corrupted. So it said it'll put them in a temp state, and their current login is now C:\documents and settings\TEMP\etc, etc.... when it normally is c:\doc and settings\username, bleh, etc <Publicus> ah, ok <rynz`WORK> some automated process copied their profile to "TEMP", with temp being a profile? <rynz`WORK> wtf is that **** <blackdevl> rynz`WORK check filesystem acl's on c:\documents and settings\username <blackdevl> and check that they can access HKEY-CURRENT_USER <rynz`WORK> their original c:\documents and settings\username is still there <exabyte> when i boot to windows from my SATA hd it freezes at loading screen unless i disconnect my 2 IDE hd's... any ideas? <blackdevl> does their account have access to it <rynz`WORK> but when they log in, it reads from C:\documents and settings\TEMP <rynz`WORK> ?? <rynz`WORK> randomly happened today <blackdevl> because it cant read from their own profile path <rynz`WORK> but how did that randomly happen? after we installed some government software <blackdevl> also check hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\profilelist\SID\ <rynz`WORK> it seemed to do something <blackdevl> maybe security got changed and they couldnt access the registry/filesystem <Darryl-> randomly happened after making a change? <rynz`WORK> we had to install some software, part of some government thing <rynz`WORK> and i think that screwed with registry <blackdevl> i agree, it probably did <Darryl-> so it doesn't sound very random <Darryl-> try what blackdevl is suggesting <bar> Weird, I am having some problems with this windows xp pro system. It's a dell. I do a repair via the install cd, and it goes through the process fine ... but after the Windows XP Pro screen ... it just gives me a black screen and hangs. Any ideas? <Darryl-> bar: could be bad video drivers <Darryl-> can you boot to safe mode? <rynz`WORK> blackdev, their logging in with normal username/pw/domain, but being mapped to that C:\doc*\TEMP path <rynz`WORK> how can i get their login remapped back to original loc <Publicus> blackdevl, it works! haha, thank you so much, that made my day :D <bar> Darryl-: Thanks. Trying safe mode now <blackdevl> Publicus was it the sharing/security thing? <Publicus> yup <blackdevl> cool <blackdevl> rynz`WORK: check hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\profilelist\SID\ <blackdevl> see what the ProfilePath is for their SID <blackdevl> then see that they have access to the HKEY-CURRENT_USER hive for that profile <blackdevl> so you can repermission HKEY_USERS\(SID) as an admin <bar> Darryl-: It's hanging on loading the agp440.sys driver. hmm <blackdevl> then make sure they have permission to the c:\documents and settings\(username) path <rynz`WORK> 9 S-1-x* entries <rynz`WORK> how do you link the appropriate one to their username <rynz`WORK> or check the one ***ociated with username in question, then check any if its attributes <Darryl-> bar: leave it for about 5 minutes
