<spiderworm> url = good

<spiderworm> or maybe in china?
<flannel> woohoo I got it :D
<rajesh> anyone know of a good reference for js ***ociative arrays?
<devc> spide,r is it going slowly?
<vitalite> people still use php?
<spiderworm> v e r y
<vitalite> oh yeah thats what people used before ruby
<vitalite> i've heard of that
<spiderworm> vitalite: lol
<devc> I knew I should have gone with the 56k. The guy told me a 28.8 would be enough :@
<devc> grrrr
<vitalite> saw it in a museum once :)
<spiderworm> php is still the most popular apache module
<spiderworm> iirc
<rajesh> actually, just need to know if there are methods to get only the keys or only the values iteratively.
<spiderworm> (netcraft confirms it)
<rajesh> ahh nevermind, thanks.
<spiderworm> rajesh: you figured it out?
<devc> spiderworm: I dunno why it would be going slowly aside form it having to pre-load the images.
<rajesh> spiderworm: hah. i'll just use the indexing
<rajesh> won't bother bout what i asked.
<spiderworm> devc: it's done
<devc> blacksun.ca < *
<spiderworm> so you want ... what do you want exactly to happen?
<devc> I thought they'd be a good host to start out iwth but .BLAH
<devc> spiderworm. . So if you click through you see the portfolio working right?
<themoves> hi, I've opened a window using window.open which has a form in it. when that form submits I'd like the main pain to refresh but focus to remain on the current window (the one just opened) Is that possible?
<spiderworm> see? there's your problem. hosting in canada, and everybody knows that canadians.... jk ;)
<spiderworm> devc: yes
<devc> lol canadians > *: P
<devc> http://www.giftedniche.com/redo/
<devc> I'd like to link to the portfolio from there.
<spiderworm> ah
<spiderworm> got it
<spiderworm> yeah then you only need to p*** a single variable
<vitalite> spiderworm: internet explorer is still the most popular web browser
<vitalite> bangladesh is still a more popular place to live than england
<vitalite> :)
<spiderworm> vitalite: and believe it or not, vitalite is popular in some countries
<spiderworm> (nasty stuff)
<vitalite> lol
<vitalite> touche
<spiderworm> u must be australian?
<devc> what is mitalite, sounds like Marmite?
<devc> mitalite = vitalite
<devc> vitalite:What's wrong with php? :(
<vitalite> british
<spiderworm> brits eat that stuff?
<vitalite> i don't :)
<spiderworm> g4u
<vitalite> devc - rubbish exception handling, pretend objects, non-existent reflection, nasty low level syntax
<vitalite> are the first things that spring to mind
<spiderworm> heh
<spiderworm> pretend objects
<guido_w> vita: talking about Java? ;)
<vitalite> lol
<spiderworm> what language has truly "real" objects anyways
<manos> the language our world is written in
<manos> heh
<vitalite> manos: that was the clever line i was searching for
<vitalite> spiderworm: have you tried ruby? :)
<vitalite> everything is an object
<spiderworm> vitalite: no but i keep hearing about ruby on rails
<manos> actually, nothing is an object
<vitalite> rails is rubbish (ok it's not bad but it's not my thing)
<spiderworm> i have tried some python, which i dig
<vitalite> pythons cool
<guido_w> manos: it's all blocks, right?
<guido_w> vitalite: indeed ;)
<manos> it's the nature of human perception and it's need for abstractions/handles that makes us need objects as a way of thinking
<manos> actually, everything is a mess
<guido_w> manos: ah, thought you were talking about ruby ;)
<manos> oh well, it's friday
<themoves> anyone? I only need a yes or a no, not a solution.
<manos> LOL
<guido_w> themoves: no, of course
<guido_w> themoves: what was the question? ;)
<furic> Do people ever donate to free services?
<spiderworm> themoves.... uh i cant find your question... wat was it?
<themoves> I'll repost
<themoves> hi, I've opened a window using window.open which has a form in it. when that form submits I'd like the main pain to refresh but focus to remain on the current window (the one just opened) Is that possible?
<spiderworm> furic: no. just look at debian. no following whatsoever
<Bebabo> themoves: if i understand right, then yes
<schnoodles> anyone know if its possible to get the song playing in winamp through javascript ?
<furic> I said service not software
<spiderworm> furic: oh also, think about tv and radio. they provide entertainment services and nobody gives them a dime for it
<Bebabo> window.opener.location.reload()
<themoves> Bebabo, good. chhers
<themoves> s/chhers/cheers
<furic> I'm talking about donations not advertising revenues
<spiderworm> furic: its very simple to get people to donate for free services... it's all about how needed your service is and how you market it
<guido_w> Bebabo: that will make the popup loose focus, right?
<Bebabo> dunno
<Bebabo> shudn't
<Bebabo> never checked tho
<manos> windowwhat is the post target window?
<furic> I'm just wondering if i can survive off donations of if im going to need flashing rectangular gif's on every page demanding people buy pills from a site that ends in a cctld that nobody has ever seen before
<guido_w> well, it focuses the main window on load, i think
<furic> The service is needed, its for a minority community, though its a tool, not a community site itself
<spiderworm> furic: depends on your project. tell us about it and we'll let you know how much interest it's likely to generate
<manos> themoves: it's wrong to have the main window be the target of the POST
<guido_w> ;)
<spiderworm> heh
<frb-work> hacks are bad, mmkay
<manos> themoves: instead, POST normally and then when you reload (within the child window) tell the opener to refresh itself to get the new data
<guido_w> you can create eternal loops that way even!
<furic> Well its basically for people who roleplay on irc, a problem with using irc is that theres no way to find out who/what a person is without interupting play and asking, the service its just a profile system with quick lookup, a bunch of open api's, a really nifty degrading ajax interface, and some other shiny new stuff
<manos> sounds cool furic
<furic> Ive managed to find someone from the community that can host it on a server thats only running one other site and a small (peek 30 users) irc server, which is neat, free :)
<spiderworm> unfortunately i couldnt tell you, ive never roleplayed on irc
<spiderworm> i dont even know what that's about
<spiderworm> rpg on irc?
<spiderworm> mmorpg irc?
<spiderworm> ircmmorpg?
<schnoodles> does anyone know about javascript and winamp if you can retrieve the song name ?
<spiderworm> that's kinda cool looking... ircmmorpg
<furic> But ive put a lot of work in to it and im getting reeeally curious as to if i am going to have to abandon it (apart from bugfixes) to do commercial work to support myself or if people will see the logic in sending a few bucks my way to buy themselves some more development
<furic> or maybe ads, but i hate ads so i would probably just give up and get a "real job" if donations failed
<spiderworm> furic: well why not go into an irc mmorpg chatroom and ask them if they would pay?
<spiderworm> a lot of projects get good funding doing it that way
<furic> Because ive found that they often do stuff that they say they wouldn't and vice versa
<spiderworm> yah that's always a concern
<furic> I'll give it a shot...
<spiderworm> help me understand, is it an mmorpg?
<spiderworm> (not what you wrote, i get that, but the thing you're writing for is an mmorpg you somehow do in irc?)
<furic> im not sure what an mmorpg is
<spiderworm> m***ive multiplayer online role playing game
<furic> Its not a game
<frb-work> crack in a box
<spiderworm> for example, everquest, or world of warcraft
<furic> no no
<furic> theres no special client or anything
<furic> its more like an interactive story
<spiderworm> like an interactive movie?
<spiderworm> scripted?
<furic> those corny "if you picked yet go to page 55, if you picked no go to page 108" kinda books, a step further
<furic> no, just real people playing characters
<spiderworm> choose your own adventure in irc? sweet!
<furic> hehe
<furic> lots of minority communities do it, theres the weres (werewolves), furries (animal/human combo characters mostly, like those seen in cartoons, donald duck for eg), bondage enthusiasts, all sorts do it
<furic> those are just some i know of
<spiderworm> umm.... wowsers
<spiderworm> do you ... level up?
<furic> what do you mean?
