<[GABRI]> anyone have chillispot?
<cpm> Not I
<cpm> someone probably does, somewhere, out there,
<malukho> anyone know where can i find infos how to do w(linux bash comand) in C ??
<TMS> malukho: just guessing, but look at the source for that program?
<cyanoacry> exec("w");
<TMS> I think he meant do what the program does, not run it
<cyanoacry> ah, right
<malukho> yes
<malukho> i have to do it, but more simple, in C
<[GABRI]> anyone have chillispor or nocat?
<Stereo> you already asked
<Stereo> please stop asking
<[GABRI]> sorri
<Eggplant> mornings all
<Eggplant> anyone build a marshall biquad or other dish feed?
<[GABRI]> hi Stereo
<DrDT> dammit, why is it impossible to get a 900mhz hpol omni <900$USD?
<DrDT> you'd think the things are gold-encrusted
<J4k3> hell, just price the aluminum to make one yourself.
<J4k3> $900 is insane, but theres a good $150 worth of aluminum there before you go cutting holes in it.
<DrDT> how? the only designs out there are for 2.4, and no way in hell could I design it
<J4k3> but personally I think it could be done a little better, and a WHOLE LOT cheaper.
<J4k3> in fact, I think I'll fuq with that today.
<J4k3> its a slotted waveguide
<J4k3> theres no magic to it, at all
<J4k3> same for pacwireless's 2.4 hpol sectors/omnis.
<DrDT> please tell me your results, I'm looking at putting a 900mh omni on EO's tower and I think it's be crazy to go vertical in a big city like this
<DrDT> I know it's a SW, but still those things need good design to work
<J4k3> yeah, I'm sure vpol wouldn't be happy.
<[GABRI]> anyone have chillispor or nocat?
<J4k3> good god, its like an advertising bot.
<DrDT> [GABRI]: winnipeg is a pretty chillyspot right now
<J4k3> winterpeg
<DrDT> true
<J4k3> if I go out on US59, which runs about 40 miles from here
<J4k3> and drive on it til I hit the canadian border
<J4k3> I'd be in winnipeg
<J4k3> haha
<J4k3> hey, where you gettin fiddy-footers?
<J4k3> I can't find *anything* for masts.
<DrDT> dunno, its my boss
<J4k3> ah
<J4k3> I just want good ol' Rohn H50's
<DrDT> This is -here in winnipeg - sells masts cheap: http://xtremedevices.com/hardware.html
<J4k3> but no such creature... rat shack doesn't even peddle their super-overpriced channelbastard 36 footer anymore.
<J4k3> hmm, not too bad
<DrDT> and those are CAD
<J4k3> yeah thats what I figured
<DrDT> hah, if you ever come to winnipeg tell me and I'll take you out for a drink , after all the help you've given
<J4k3> of course, CAD hit almost 87c the other day
<DrDT> I know the xtremedevices guy, he's nice. Will buy more from him when I get the$
<J4k3> yep. At this point I'm having good luck with fence pipe for masts. I found some that fits together snugly, thick wall, actually galvenized instead of being badly painted like most TV masts, etc.
<DrDT> he put the hawking 500mw indoor amp on his website after I poited it out to him.. I bought one, it's a useful little thing
<DrDT> hah, cool that you got that working
<J4k3> but I've found the hard limit with that pipe at 30 ft unless the house is tall, then MAX 40 ft (***uming ground -> eve mount... I avoid poking holes in the roof)
<J4k3> of course I'm not sure why
<J4k3> my roof has a couple leaks (since the baseball-sized-hail storm), but none of them near my own roof tripod ;)
<J4k3> yeah I've got a few of those hawking amps
<J4k3> my original plan was to use those + dwl-2100ap's for 4-10 mile CPE
<J4k3> but heh, the dwl-2100ap's start barfing at 1-1.5 miles :)
<DrDT> my boss had a nice idea, he's gotten made some side-mounts that you screw to the side of the building, right below where the roofing juts out abount an inch, and they go around and over that
<DrDT> so that you can anchor guy wires "to the roof" without making holes in it
<J4k3> nice!
<websae> how's everyone doing?
<J4k3> speaking of guywires. I gotta bring up a big mast on a huge metal building
<websae> anyone know of a good bandwidth (web interface) monitor for a linux/unix box to monitor wireless activity?
<DrDT> J4k3: angle of roof?
<J4k3> very low
<DrDT> good, else those are damn slipery/scary
<J4k3> warehouse style building, actually a cattle auction
<J4k3> yeah... metal roof w/ real pitch = I refuse :)
<J4k3> I only wear one pair of shoes - work boots - they aren't grippy ;. and I'm too heavy to fall off somebody's roof ;)
<DrDT> I've done one of thsoe... I hanged onto the roof py placing my shoes on the little screw heads. If it wasn't for them I would have slipped easily
<J4k3> ick, thats no fun at all
<J4k3> but at least with metal
<J4k3> theres a lot less of that "I hope I'm not screwing up their roof" issue :)
<DrDT> yeah
<J4k3> *slip* *peel out a shingle* 'fuq!'
<J4k3> *stick it back in before customer sees ya*
<J4k3> ;)
<DrDT> I'm thiking of doing a "throw a rope over the roof and anchor it to trees/etc on both sides of the house and clamp my tower-climbing suit to various points of it" setup for dangerous roofs
<J4k3> use 5/8" rope and invest in a rope grab
<J4k3> ebay, cheap.
<J4k3> thats what we use on the tower... works great... just gotta change it out every few months thanks to the sun.
<J4k3> I also have a 3/8" cable pull, I just haven't invested in the cable yet.
<websae> well that would work great for Wisconsin---lol because we never get any sun
<J4k3> yeah... feels good not to have to use hooks while climbing the tower :)
<websae> anyone here use panel antennas?
<websae> Im curious how they work...
<Eggplant> webmind, they work well as long as you dont use the large ones (with dss type mounts)
<websae> dss=?
<Eggplant> tho the 30inch dish's that mount on them dont seam to rip them off to often
<Eggplant> dss = sat mounts
<DrDT> lol websae: nobody does nick completion with your name right
<Eggplant> GAH!
<websae> It's okay---it will be the nickname of my nickname I guess
<Eggplant> na ill pay more attnetion someday and get it right
<websae> no worries
<DrDT> that's nice, webmind
<DrDT> :-)
<websae> DrDT- how is is everything?
<DrDT> busy, busy
<DrDT> lots of setuff to do for the WISP whom I'm doing tech work for
<websae> How is that going?
<websae> What kind of work are you doing for them?
<DrDT> quite well, we use Motorola Canopy stuff and other than being expensive and "hosing the radio channels" they're extremely stable
<J4k3> be glad you don't use it near me ;)
<DrDT> and so quite good (we use them on all frequencies except 2.4ghz - too crowded for serious use)
<DrDT> J4k3: I know
<Eggplant> DrDT, where you at?
<DrDT> I do the setups (roof install, wiring, etc.), repairs and deinstallations. I'm in Winnipeg but they're half-hour south of here
<J4k3> DrDT: it'd be more fun to screw with the GPS receiver itself ;)
<DrDT> J4k3: you bastard
<Eggplant> hahahah
<Eggplant> ah your 350ish miles north of me
<DrDT> if you could desync their GPS time and cause diffrent AP clusters to xmit at different times you could cause a huge lot of itnereference to the canopys and we couldn't guess why
<Eggplant> ya it would be pandamonioum
<[GABRI]> anyone have chillispor or nocat?
<DrDT> dammit NO [GABRI]
<Eggplant> some one kick this guy already
<DrDT> anyways, J4k3, are ytou gonna talk to Trevor Marshall to see if he can make a design for 900mhz?
<DrDT> *cough* the high-end antenna design software he's using... there's two 70-90MB RAR files on eMule that seem to have the same name *cough*
<Eggplant> DrDT, have you looked at the TM site? he gives how to make a wave guide for any freq
<Eggplant> it should be trivial to make one for 900
<DrDT> the top of the page http://www.trevormarshall.com/waveguides.htm specifically says 802.11b
<Eggplant> ya but read on, the formula for making it for what ever freq you want is there
<Eggplant> my bad, this is the site with how
<Eggplant> http://nuke.freenet-antennas.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1
<DrDT> OK, I was wondering. I dodn't see it.
<DrDT> I may make some with those instructions.. but I think I'll wait for the results of J4k3's testing firms ;-)
<DrDT> *fitst
<DrDT> dammit
<DrDT> *first
<Eggplant> i think ill do one, but not tell i get back =\
<J4k3> wow, markk shows some basic IP stupidity on tog's list.
<J4k3> markk somehow thinks pppoe isn't routed traffic... heh.
<DrDT> this would probably be amusing if we knew who tog and markk were
<J4k3> markk comes in here often.
<J4k3> tog... doesn't, he just owns the mailing list (he camps out on efnet)
<DrDT> ok, will make fun of him later
<DrDT> "hey markk, I can't receive your packets because I'm running over PPPoE"
<DrDT> or not "running" over PPPoE, as is the case. Anyways...
<DrDT> J4k3: did yu notice the URL above http://nuke.freenet-antennas.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1 ? possible for-various-frequencies SL Waveguide design
<wheee> J4k3, ya mark doesnt understand alot of IP
<SteveWrightNZ> u guys will get burned real bad if u dont watch it
<DrDT> SteveWrightNZ: burned? by what, trying to use PPPoE and it not not working?
