<xNinja> this can be connected to the bufallo airstation or the Seano cards ?
<J4k3> antennas are antennas... they're only picky about the signal you send them (frequency band, like 2.4ghz or 5.8 ghz)
<J4k3> so any 2.4 antenna will work on any 2.4 card (***uming it has an external antenna jack, or the ability to hack one on)
<xNinja> so after taking the antenna we just need a card with has like mc port or mmcx...
<xNinja> i see
<xNinja> what u think about this http://www.rfcastle.com/GA-5800-24.asp
<J4k3> yep, that works
<J4k3> uh
<J4k3> well
<J4k3> they lie on the performance specs
<J4k3> you can't make a 24dbi parabolic that small
<xNinja> how
<xNinja> i see
<J4k3> 30cm * 40cm would be 15dBi
<J4k3> or so
<xNinja> aha
<xNinja> ok tellme something jake
<J4k3> unless their antenna has an emense amount of black magic inside... its possible of course
<xNinja> if i want to connect 2 building in a city wich has alot of buildings and the distance is like 2-3 kilo from house to house
<xNinja> wich is a good solution u think
<J4k3> well
<J4k3> 2.4ghz won't work with stuff in the way
<J4k3> if theres a big building it probably won't work
<xNinja> thereis alot of buildings in the middle
<J4k3> big building in between
<J4k3> hmm
<J4k3> if you can get a building in the middle
<J4k3> to bounce in between
<J4k3> you'll be set
<xNinja> but most of them like the same tall
<J4k3> ahh
<J4k3> can you erect any sort of mast?
<xNinja> yeah
<J4k3> I'd put up a mast on one end
<J4k3> and see if you can hit it
<xNinja> i'll put mast in the two ends
<xNinja> but about the tools/hardware what is the best to use/buy ?
<xNinja> like the access points and the antennas
<xNinja> jdhutchin1 this is what i need as i guess and as u told me isnt ? http://www.senao.com/english/product/product_wireless01_outdoor_1.asp?pgtl=Wireless&tp1id=02&tp2id=07&proid=000033
<xNinja> Two antenna connectors (MMCX)
<xNinja> wow support two antenna in the same time ?
<hjohnson> xNinja: kinda
<xNinja> nice very nice
<xNinja> i think i'll take this one also http://www.wirelesspro.co.uk/store/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=15&language=en
<xNinja> is there something better ?
<xNinja> and the super cantenna because its small and i can take it with me http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1084533&Tab=0&NoMapp=0
<xNinja> is there something small like it but better ?
<dersteer> best IMHO is grids
<xNinja> sorry what u mean ?
<dersteer> might wanna check out www.hyperlinktech.com
<dersteer> 15 db and 24 db grid antennas
<dersteer> it depends on the range you want thou
<dersteer> for point to point links that is
<J4k3> well
<xNinja> i want to cover something like 5 kilo
<J4k3> yeah, you're gonna need high gain (19+ dbi) to make a 5km link through 'sketchy' conditions
<dersteer> I would go 24
<xNinja> 5 kilo indoor
<J4k3> although I've seen some crazy stuff work just fine... then other stuff that should work do absolutely nothing :)
<dersteer> and adjust power as you need
<xNinja> i'll make a picture of what area i want to cover and show u ok
<xNinja> just a minute
<dersteer> think I'm going to need it
<dersteer> fell off tower today :(
<dersteer> not very far up... but man did it ever hurt
<dersteer> time to start using saftey equipment even when I'm close to the ground
<J4k3> holy **** dude
<J4k3> yeah
<J4k3> confidence kills.
<dersteer> was 10-12 feet up
<J4k3> confidence is what got me hit up side the head with an LMR400 extension
<dersteer> landed flat on back
<J4k3> working at night, no hard hat, etc.
<J4k3> the
<J4k3> the N-connector came down and damn near broke my leg
<J4k3> gash on my shin to the bone
<dersteer> I'm going to be more careful from now on
<dersteer> thats for sure
<J4k3> yep
<Sweeper> gnu? lmr 400 and an N connector?
<[TvM]> who uses securew2??
<Sweeper> must have been a long-*** cable
<J4k3> Sweeper: about 10 feet.
<dersteer> stuff falls fast
<J4k3> and yeah
<J4k3> basically it came down straight
<J4k3> and wrapped around my head
<J4k3> the backend slapped the back of my pants
<J4k3> big soft spot back there :)
<J4k3> the other side hit my shin
<dersteer> I've dropped tools before you should see how far they go into the ground
<J4k3> haha
<dersteer> light tools... like screwdrivers
<Sweeper> ahhh, someone dropped it ON you XD
<J4k3> my uniden frs radio has fallen from 110 and 140'
<J4k3> and both times hit the base
<J4k3> first time fired off from the base about 40 ft.
<J4k3> second time it landed hard and broke the transmit switch.
<J4k3> now its VOX-only ;)
<xNinja> check out http://q8org.org/p/wireless.JPG
<dersteer> xNinja: do you have clear LOS?
<J4k3> xNinja: check out Radio Mobile
<xNinja> no
<dersteer> then it won't work
<J4k3> its got a pretty nasty learning curve, but it'll give you some idea of what will be required
<xNinja> thereis alot of houses
<dersteer> gotta be up in the air to get it to work
<dersteer> over trees and houses
<xNinja> i am in block and my friends in other blocks
<dersteer> if you can put up a antenna high enough it'll work
<xNinja> i can put mast in each house
<xNinja> no big building between each house kinda like all houses has the same tall
<xNinja> but alot of houses
<dersteer> gotta get above them
<[TvM]> who uses securew2??
<dersteer> [TvM]: nope
<xNinja> [TvM] i dont know whats the securew2 is
<dersteer> I secure by mac address currently
<[TvM]> EAP-TTLS ...
<[TvM]> dersteer only??
<dersteer> yep
<[TvM]> :|
<dersteer> until someone makes me change it
<[TvM]> its like to have nothing
<dersteer> if I don't just hire them
<[TvM]> every one can change the mac address in seconds
<dersteer> not worth my time yet
<dersteer> people up here are pretty dumb
<xNinja> hahaha
<xNinja> i have videos of how to crack wep/wpa
<xNinja> and more
<dersteer> my system wouldn't like 2 of the same mac addresses logged on at the same time
<dersteer> and everyone is logged in 24x7
<[TvM]> dersteer its easy to disconnect 1 client
<[TvM]> :P
<hjohnson> well, our repeater is doing relatively well right now, save for the dead cell in the battery
<dersteer> actually... the trailer park people could do it
<[TvM]> but thats another story...
<dersteer> share accounts
<dersteer> 1 at a time
<dersteer> I guess if they do I just don't care
<dersteer> just so I never know
<dersteer> I don't have anything to back this statement up... but I feel my network is faster than wep/wpa
<dersteer> and with my new squid server its even better.... I don't throttle squid transfers
<dersteer> can load websites at full network speed
<dersteer> up to 11 megabit
<dersteer> if its available
<[TvM]> my univ uses securew2 now...and im trying to know if its possible to uses my AP to connect univ APS only to extend signal and then connect like a client
<dersteer> tried to put AP in client mode?
<dersteer> does it require special software?
