<J4k3> hmm
<J4k3> those are two CM9's
<J4k3> unless something random has occured.
<J4k3> "your acer/wistron card has been replaced with foldgers crystals
<hparker_lappie> hehe
<tarheelcoxn> howdy folks... is this a good place to ask a question about a buggy 802.11g driver in linux?
<tarheelcoxn> sorry... read your topic but not the chanserv message
<hparker_lappie> I thought everyone here ran Win 3.11?
<tarheelcoxn> har-dee-har-har
<tarheelcoxn> :P
<J4k3> mmm, I'm a happy man
<hparker_lappie> J4k3: Win the lottery?
<tarheelcoxn> so question: I just switched from debian etch to ubuntu breezy...
<tarheelcoxn> and it came with a Ralink 2500 driver
<tarheelcoxn> but the driver didn't work
<tarheelcoxn> and their wiki page on it leaves me with a major problem:
<tarheelcoxn> full signal for two seconds, no signal for one second, full signall for two...
<tarheelcoxn> the wiki has me getting the latest beta from sourceforge, so I'm not sure where I introduced the problem
<tarheelcoxn> any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?
<tarheelcoxn> last card I got was a prism2.5--easy as pie with hostap... I'm a little lost with this
<hparker_lappie> Isn't that the rt2500?
<tarheelcoxn> hparker_lappie: correct
<hparker_lappie> Well, I don't hang out here much, but all the Gentoo users I've seen with those ended up getting a different card :(
<tarheelcoxn> ack!
<tarheelcoxn> that's not a solution
<hparker_lappie> What's crazy, I spoke with them at a seminar a few years ago, and they were bragging about their linux support
<tarheelcoxn> I was gonna say
<tarheelcoxn> the sourceforge project is at 1.1.0
<tarheelcoxn> what gives!
<tarheelcoxn> ?
<hparker_lappie> No clue.. J4k3, or one of the others may have a better outlook on it
<tarheelcoxn> from the sound of the ubuntu wiki page, there are a fair number of users who've used it successfully
<tarheelcoxn> I just figured somebody in here would go:"Oh! you need to compile with blah blah blah blah" and I'd be don't with it
<hparker_lappie> Well, don't let me deter you ;)
<tarheelcoxn> hparker_lappie: what time of day would be good to catch somebody who might know about the rt2500?
<hparker_lappie> Got a dartboard? ;)
<tarheelcoxn> or is there somebody who wouldn't mind a freenode memo?
<tarheelcoxn> hehehe
<tarheelcoxn> fair enough
<hparker_lappie> As with any other channel, they wander in and out
<tarheelcoxn> well... I'm guessing the ops are good people to ask?
<hparker_lappie> Might be, I can't recall ever chatting with them though
<tarheelcoxn> hparker_lappie: thanks much for trying to help
<hparker_lappie> Wish I would of been more help :(
<hparker_lappie> Just camp in here ;)
<tarheelcoxn> I'll try not to be a nuisance
<hparker_lappie> It gets quite active at times.. And it's saturday afternoon still
<hparker_lappie> (Well, at least stateside)
<hparker_lappie> If it was 30-40 mph winds out, I might be doing something besides sitting in my recliner, watching tv, drinking a beer
<J4k3> !mac 00:90:96
<WifiFred> 009096 ASKEY COMPUTER CORP.
<tarheelcoxn> say, that's nifty
<tarheelcoxn> I'm wondering if a customer service email to Ralink would be worthwhile at all
<tarheelcoxn> :P
<hparker_lappie> it's cheap ;)
<tarheelcoxn> no kidding!
<tarheelcoxn> I was astounded
<J4k3> hmm
<J4k3> interesting
<hparker_lappie> tarheelcoxn: I was refering to sending the email ;)
<J4k3> I have an 'old' CM9, and a 'new' cm9
<J4k3> with radically different MACs
<J4k3> and the 'new' one kinda ****s on the TX side.
<hparker_lappie> So, no folders crystals?
<hparker_lappie> foldgers*
<Pablo_C> o.O
<tarheelcoxn> hparker_lappie: oh, that too
<J4k3> haha
<tarheelcoxn> hparker_lappie: but the card _was_ cheap: $30 for an 802.11g cardbus
<hparker_lappie> Ahhh
<hparker_lappie> If only it worked....
<Pablo_C> you likin mt J4k3 ?
<tarheelcoxn> hparker_lappie: :P
<tarheelcoxn> I wasn't expecting it to... I read the return policy carefully
<tarheelcoxn> but then I got my hopes up
<tarheelcoxn> sadly they're bordering on dashed
<J4k3> Pablo_C: yeah... I've noticed some things about it that make me very happy.
<Pablo_C> cool
<Pablo_C> we changed out all our backhaul boards to the routerboard 500's
<Pablo_C> its doing alot better now
<J4k3> yeah
<J4k3> really pleased with mine
<tarheelcoxn> any of you fellers have any suggestions on troubleshooting a Ralink 802.11g cardbus adapter?
<tarheelcoxn> 0000:05:00.0 Network controller: RaLink Ralink RT2500 802.11 Cardbus Reference Card (rev 01)
<tarheelcoxn> I'm guessing that's a no
<tarheelcoxn> some other time, then
<nastjuid> dragorn, oh god of kernel patches, which tarball from kernel.org should i download?
<jd|laptop> the right one
<nastjuid> har har
<jd|laptop> it's not that hard...
<nastjuid> last I spoke with dragorn, he enlightened me on why a 2.6.12 patch had failed - was due to the release. they had changed their source causing the patch to fail
<nastjuid> so in short, should i grab 2.6.12 or would any 2.6.12-r# work? or which did you originally write the latest release for
<Pablo_C> 2.6.12-9-386
<nastjuid> Pablo_C, that works with latest patch? just change path in .diff?
<SteveWrightNZ> what are the power-supply requirements for the routerboard 500's ?
<wenko> id say about one amp
<wenko> tjats even a bit much
<SteveWrightNZ> yeah thats a lot for a solar-powered site
<wenko> id think safest would be to have 1 amp ability but is really gunna need like .25amp max
<burzum> any suggestions for a pcmcia card with atheros chipset?
<burzum> i have a list of many cards but i dont know which one has a atheros chip and i wont google the whole list :(
<silentfury> list them
<burzum> silentfury: http://www.geizhals.at/deutschland/?cat=wlano&sort=p
<burzum> i want to spend 20-40 euros for a card
<burzum> the laptop has already an intel centrino 2200 chipset but its not very well supported
<burzum> so i thought about buying a second wlan adapter
<hparker> 2200 works fine in this laptop
<jd|laptop> 2200 is very well supported
<Pablo_C> jd|laptop, got any idea on how to increase tx and rx on my sr2 with madwifi?
<jd|laptop> no
<jd|laptop> iirc madwifi doesn't do tx power control very well
<Pablo_C> ok
<Pablo_C> :(
<SteveWrightNZ> wenko: the rb500's draw about .25amp ?
<bucky> hi SteveWrightNZ
<SteveWrightNZ> heya bucky dood, how u ?
<bucky> pretty good
<SteveWrightNZ> nice
<SteveWrightNZ> wot u up to ?
<bucky> i got mad at debian.. decided to try slack
<SteveWrightNZ> heh
<bucky> and modded it with slapt-get
<bucky> don't miss deb at all so far
<SteveWrightNZ> slapt-get lol
<SteveWrightNZ> very cool
<bucky> hehe
<SteveWrightNZ> nice name for it 8-)
<bucky> slack is strange.. just the name is weird
<Pablo_C> SteveWrightNZ, I have noticed the rb500's drawing about .18amps with 2 sr5's
<SteveWrightNZ> Pablo_C: seriously ? that all ?
<Pablo_C> yep
<SteveWrightNZ> wow
<Pablo_C> they will hit about .28 during boot
<SteveWrightNZ> what about under load ?
