<acidtonic> running two dual core opterons
<acidtonic> compiles the linux kernel in around 58 seconds... :)
<variable> very cool
<variable> i was just wondering where you get server cases?
<acidtonic> got mine off newegg
<acidtonic> was around 650 for the board and case, i got the rackmount
<acidtonic> I'm the head of the schools tech club, and we had an extra 2 grand to spend on our budget :).... I always wanted to run an opteron
<variable> sweet
<variable> whats the machine runniong?
<acidtonic> yep, i have slackware 10.2
<variable> i mean whats its purpose
<acidtonic> on there
<variable> ?
<acidtonic> a little bit of everything
<acidtonic> since its a tech club im showing everyone various linux server roles on the box along with security
<acidtonic> its running sendmail, postfix, qmail for various mtas, running proftpd, pure-ftpd and vsftpd, and we'll be getting to clusters by the end of this month
<variable> awesome
<variable> where you going to school at that you get to do all this?
<acidtonic> and i know your curious, no its not connected to an outside network
<acidtonic> I live in Pekin, Illinois in the USA
<variable> so its a high school? wow, must be pretty nice one
<acidtonic> kinda
<acidtonic> our local college actually teaches the course, its college level course with an option called dual credit where i get high school credits AND college credits while the highschool pays for the college
<variable> thats sweet
<acidtonic> yep
<variable> wish my high school had done that
<acidtonic> its like 400 dollars for the two cl***es im taking, and i didnt have to pay a dime
<acidtonic> I already have 16 semester hours college credit, and im just a senior in high school
<variable> damn, thats really good
<variable> thats a semester of school before your even in it
<acidtonic> dunno if i can afford to go to college after though, im pretty broke
<variable> nah, if you have that much college credit youve got to be pretty smart, get a scholarship
<acidtonic> Im debating accepting donations for the open source wireless mapping software im writing
<variable> why not, go for it?
<acidtonic> its still REAL alpha
<variable> oh
<acidtonic> id have moral issues about accepting donates for something that buggy
<acidtonic> donations*
<variable> not to plug the school im at, but iit up in chicago gives out alot of scholarships
<acidtonic> i've had a few people ask about how to donate, they want me to work on it more so they donate and also get their handle and website in the credits of something that might be popular
<acidtonic> wow that was a run on if i ever wrote one
<variable> have a link?
<acidtonic> yep
<acidtonic> but theres very little there, i just started the site a couple days ago
<variable> thats ok, lemme see
<acidtonic> the people who inquired were friends of friends mostly
<acidtonic> http://acidtonic.homedns.org/~wardrive/news.php
<acidtonic> dont be disappointed, its empty, except one document
<acidtonic> theres the doc link
<acidtonic> http://acidtonic.homedns.org/~wardrive/content.php?article.2
<variable> so is it going to be like netstumbler, but better and for linux?
<acidtonic> well a goal is better, im not sure if i'm that good yet
<acidtonic> but id like it to kick some *** for the linux side of wardriving
<acidtonic> i personally try to get some friends interested in wardriving
<acidtonic> but they are more into seeing the information, like on maps with bread crum trails and such
<variable> gotta come up north by me, so much free ap
<acidtonic> kismet just wasnt keeping them interested
<acidtonic> yet i didnt want them running winblows
<variable> ya, i always revert to windows for wireless stuff
<acidtonic> im actually moddeling mine after a friends software for windows
<acidtonic> but his is closed src and we really dont talk about code
<acidtonic> since by license i cant include his code without it being gpl
<variable> whats his prgm?
<acidtonic> http://www5.musatcha.com/musatcha/computers/software/wifimapping/index.htm its already rather popular
<acidtonic> hes high ranking on search engines for wifi mapping software
<acidtonic> and pulls in well over 200 dollars a month in donations
<variable> he in high school too?
<acidtonic> everythings free he just has some early proprietary info before it became public domain, meaning NDAs
