<_|Nix|_> OgreBoy: No. The external is a CRT, currently.
<OgreBoy> oih .. sorry.
<_|Nix|_> OgreBoy: Cool! X did not fail to parse the conf file when I said Option "NoDDC" "on"
<_|Nix|_> OgreBoy: So that p***ing reference in man radeon may not be merely anecdotal.
<OgreBoy> um, you can put any option you like in there
<OgreBoy> if you check the log, you'll see messages like "Option "foo" is not used" if it wasn't picked up by anything
<_|Nix|_> OgreBoy: I did, and you're right. Option NoDDC isn't even showing up.
<OgreBoy> if you don't see anything in the log, that's often a "good" sign, not a bad one :)
<_|Nix|_> OgreBoy: Correction: grep-ing for NoDDC revealed it.
<_|Nix|_> /Exactly/ as you said.
<OgreBoy> :)
<OgreBoy> I don't often get it *exactly* right lol
<_|Nix|_> :o)
<drac> he must've though this was public toilette
<aphax> is it opssible to disable anti-aliasing for specific applications? my gnome-terminal seems awfully sluggish with AA fonts on
<aphax> possible*
<TonInter> hi all
<jdolan> hi. my system freezes (hard locks) when attempting to change resolutions. xorg 6.8.2 built from source, linux 2.6.13-rc4, gcc 3.4.4. xorg.conf: http://pastebin.com/410181
<jdolan> it used to work fine with xorg 6.8.1. i don't *believe* i've changed anything. also, dri works fine in windowed mode and at native resolution.
<jdolan> it's just anything that tries to change fullscreen res.
<jdolan> any help would be much appreciated :)
<jdolan> (oh, i've tried several methods of changing res, too - xrandr, gnome prefs, quake2 fullscreen.. they all result in a hard lock)
<drac> jdolan: Option "AGPFastWrite" is evil, get rid of it and disable it also from bios.
<jdolan> drac, okay, worth a shot, brb :)
<Dr_Fie> :)
<Dr_Fie> i'm working with gentoo but people in #gentoo like... arn't paying attention to my qustion... anyway... what does the "no screens found" error mean?
<dagb> Dr_Fie: that something in your xorg.conf is incorrect. Check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log for further clues.
<Dr_Fie> dagb: "given depth is not supported by this driver"
<Dr_Fie> i dont know how to tell what kind of video i have
<Dr_Fie> it's onboard
<Dr_Fie> oi
<Dr_Fie> i think i might not use gentoo :>
<Dr_Fie> heh
<Dr_Fie> it has defeted me
<Dr_Fie> i at elast got it on the hard drive
<havoc|the|chaos> is it possible to set a special refresh rate for a given screen resolution?? becaus 60Hz are kinda anoying after some time
<dagb> do Xorg -configure
<Dr_Fie> i did xorgconfig
<dagb> Dr_Fie: do Xorg -configure
<dagb> and tune the resulting file
<dagb> havoc|the|chaos: how many screen resolutions do you need?
<Dr_Fie> oh :>
<dagb> havoc|the|chaos: in any case, you can play with VertRefresh in your Monitor section
<havoc|the|chaos> dagb: only one but it seems that it is no matter what resolution, the refresh rate stays the same
<Dr_Fie> craps
<Dr_Fie> ok... i guess i need to find where agp support is in make menuconfig
<dagb> Dr_Fie: drivers | char devices, I think
<jdolan> drac, no luck with changing fastwrites.
<dagb> HorizSync 30.0 - 81.0
<dagb> VertRefresh 60
<Dr_Fie> dagb: is that in 2.6?
<dagb> havoc|the|chaos: what kind of monitor is it? crt?
<havoc|the|chaos> dagb: yes. crt
<jdolan> drac, i did, however, from examining the log, find that the native res of this screen is actually 1280x800. i've been running it at 1200x800 since the day i bought it, lol.
<jdolan> i just thought it wasnt very sharp. lol.
<dagb> havoc|the|chaos: then you probably want VertRefresh to be a range, and not a fixed value as shown above
<dagb> Dr_Fie: yes. 2.6
<havoc|the|chaos> dagb: exactly :) the range is right for my monitor,
<havoc|the|chaos> dagb in my current resolution it shall run with 85Hz but it only works with 60hz
<dagb> havoc|the|chaos: and if you want to force it to a higher refresh, increase the minimum value for the VertRefresh
<havoc|the|chaos> dagb: wouldn't that be the death for my screen if i switch to a higher resolution ??
<dagb> havoc|the|chaos: possibly. don't do that, then
<havoc|the|chaos> dagb: the thing that makes me upset is: with my old linux installation (fc3) it perfectly worked:(
<dagb> havoc|the|chaos: use the xorg.conf from fc3 then
<havoc|the|chaos> dagb will try to do that after i got my nvidia card working correctly :)
<havoc|the|chaos> dagb: have to reboot then for my new kernel to proof to be correct :)
<Dr_Fie> hmmmm
<Ryanmt> Hi everyone
<Ryanmt> Does anybody know how i can change my screen resolution, i cant use the default program in unbuntu as it has an error related to XRandR, i think its something to do with my dual monitors
<minra> ,,
<minra> yes we all know
<Ryanmt> will you tell me? :P
<MRH2> I am trying to get a nv card to work and seem to be stuck at 1024x768
<Ryanmt> same here MRH2 :(
<MRH2> but only on the dvi interface, the vvga interface works as expected
<MRH2> it ignored modelines and when i dare put the correct horox and vert setting in fo the monitor is gives me a black screen
<MRH2> using NVIDIA Quadro4 100 NVS / X.org 6.8.2 / ltsp 4.1
<MRH2> anyone have any suggestions?
<spyderous> searched bugzilla?
<MRH2> I couldn;t seem to find any issues that seem to match
<MRH2> might be searching for the wrong thing though
<iamsthitha> hey
<iamsthitha> how do I enable xvideo support?
<drac> depends on your driver, in xorg.conf anyway. but usually it's enabled by default.
<iamsthitha> if my video card wasnt detected properly.. would it get disabled?
<drac> probably, if you're using "vesa" or some other fallback driver.
<drac> change it to use proper driver then :)
<iamsthitha> well I tried
<iamsthitha> how do I check what driver I'm using?
<drac> /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf are the most intresting files.
<iamsthitha> I see
<iamsthitha> I guess I'm using VESA
<Ryanmt> "the x server does not support the XRandR extension." <-- what does that mean..how do i change a monitors resolution, can somebody help pllease :(
<iamsthitha> I have an "ATI 3D Rage LT Pro"
<Makki> anyone tried ivtvdev on xorg ?
<iamsthitha> how do I find out what drivers I have available on my computer?
<Makki> iamsthitha: ls /usr/X11/lib/modules/drivers
<iamsthitha> thanks
<iamsthitha> and I can just put the name of those things in xorg.conf and it'll work right?
<Makki> sort of
<Makki> without the _drv.o
<iamsthitha> right
<anholt> driver "ati" is what you want
<iamsthitha> yea
<iamsthitha> BRB.. restarting X
<litb> hi! how can i enumerate all XLFD font names of my XOrg server installation?
<litb> using some console program?
<OgreBoy> xlsfonts
<OgreBoy> and fc-list for the ones accessed client side via fontconfig/freetype
<OgreBoy> if you should need that later
<litb> oh yea, thank you
<litb> OgreBoy, is there a field in xlfd to set if the font is proportional?
